Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Lodge Logic L14SK3 Pre-Seasoned 15 Inch Cast-Iron Skillet

Customer Review: Good value for the price...
Summary: 4 Stars

This is huge and so it's best used for cooking a great quantity of food. It IS unwieldy and must be carried or moved with both (protected) hands. While you do want to rinse and brush it while still warm, you must be careful not to put a too-hot pan in a sink not meant for overly hot iron.My sink is a beautiful black, stone composite, and so I often end up trying to balance the pan on something that I've set into the sink to be the other "hand" while I brush. One hand on the handle, one hand holds the brush...you really need to think about how you plan to choreograph this before you bring it to the sink. One small complaint: After 3 uses I've noticed a very small area near the handle that seems to have lost it's black 'finish'. It's silver underneath, which really surprises me, as I assumed it was black cast all throughout. Maybe it hit something, but geez, I was a little disappointed. I would recommend this pan, however.

Customer Review: I found the LID for this beauty!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been looking for a large cast iron skillet for a long time and when I found it at this price I had to put it on my wish list for Xmas. When I open the gigantic box and found this wonderfully black, smooth and shiny utensil I had to see if it would fit on my stove and it FIT! It may not play well with others in sharing the stovetop, but it cooks without sticking and finally I have more room to actually cook decent sized burgers! I love to use my oven to slow roast and I wanted something other than my Dutch Oven to do it in. Sometimes you don't want to use an 8-quart pan when a smaller one will do. I found the perfect lid necessary by doing a Google search for 'seasoned cast iron lid for 15 inch skillet'. The search showed that the one by Cajun Cookware on Amazon is unavailable, but [...] carries it at the price of $24.74 w/$8.00 shipping. I will be ordering that lid today.

Customer Review: Nice alternative to teflon
Summary: 5 Stars

I've decided to replace my teflon pans with cast iron and this is one of the first ones I bought. So far it has been excellent. The large size is fantastic, though it's definitely heavy. My arm muscles are getting a workout! I'm glad I got it pre-seasoned, since that was one less thing to hassle with. I have found that cooking with cast iron makes food taste better. Kind of surprsing. I'm not sure why this has been the case, but my husband and I have both noticed it. I have to say though, it is very different than cooking with a regular teflon pan. At first I kept burning everything. Cast iron gets very hot and maintains a steady hot temperature. I'm finding that I'm basically cooking everything in this pan on med-low heat, where I would have used medium heat. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase though and plan on getting a couple more cast iron pans

Customer Review: Lodge 15" fry pan
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this pan. it's the next to the largest Lodge makes but the lorgest with a long handle. If my stove was larger I would have gotten the 17" This pan makes a great griddle (I have a gas stove) you can cook over the hotest spot and move the food away or closer without moving the pan or turning the gas up or down. You can cook several eggs and realy get under those eggs with plenty of room to flip them. Also i cook stuffed chillies and use one pan where I use to use two or three. I keep it on the stove and use it for everything from warming taco shells to cheese sandwichs to a full meal, and hot cakes. With this size pan, the sides do not get in the way when you need to get under something to flip it over. So, dont think you need to cook a lot of food to get one. Its just my wife and I and we use it for everything.

Customer Review: 15 1/4" Cast Iron Skillet
Summary: 4 Stars

This pan is wonderful for cooking large quantities of food with it's large area base. It's great for the oven, with an ability to handle baking two chickens, or a large stand-up roast, a large bone-in ham, etc., with whatever vergetables that you want to add along with it. The handle, and the extra outside lip, gives one the stability in lifting the pan off of the stove or out of a hot oven. The only drawback is that it is better to buy this pan if you have a commercial type stovetop; it doesn't permit thorough enough cooking due to it's size in comparison to the electric cooking coils. A smaller version of this pan would be perfect if this is the type of stovetop you have. It would be great used for a barbeque and for campfire cooking. This is a very heavy and durable pan that will last a lifetime.
