Don't waste your time looking at other brands when it comes to Cast-Iron. Lodge makes the best, hands down.
I bought this pan for a gift and it was perfect. Because it comes pre-seasoned, they were able to start cooking on it right away. It really makes for a nice gift when you don't have to fiddle around with seasoning your gift prior to use.
I'd recommend this and ANY Lodge Cast-Iron product.

If you are strong enough and have plenty of space on your stove, this is a wonderful skillet to own becuase it's so huge. This could double as a man hole cover: to give you an idea of the size of it. This large surface area allows one to keep for a big family in one go without needing multiple pans or batches. I had wanted a really large pan, and I wanted to get away from Teflon pans due to possible health issues with them, so this pan fits the bill. I never used a cast iron pan before, and didn't know what to expect. It turns out that I really like this pan, and have not had problems with food sticking. The pan came nicely pre-seasoned. Nothing lightweight about this cast-iron skillet. I use it primarily for frying and it maintains the heat perfectly for large batches of fish or chicken. I was happy when it came and I realized how wide this was; it almost needs two burners. I also own the 12 inch skillet which is great. Pre-seasoning makes this brand my favorite. This baby could easily have a starring role in any western movie. The cowboys return to camp after a hard day on the trail to find the cook putting everything imaginable into this huge pan. When combined with a cast iron lid you'll need a mover to lift it, but mercy, it does the job. Anyone who complains about cooking with cast iron simply has no clue how to use it. Excellent product!
