Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Lodge Logic L10SK3 12-Inch Pre-Seasoned SkilletCustomer Review: Chalk another one up for DOA Summary: 1 Stars
Like most of the other 1-stars here, this review is for Amazon's terrible packing and the apparent flimsiness of the product. Unfortunately, I never received an unbroken skillet. On the bright side, 5 stars for Amazon's excellent handling of returns.
I ordered the skillet and received it via 2nd day UPS with a 2-inch crack down the side. I returned it and received its replacement via next-day FedEx with the handle broken clean off. Aren't these things supposed to last decades? At this point, Amazon seems to want to cut its losses and refund my purchase price.
ATTN: Amazon-- Maybe it's cheaper to spring for better packing materials than having to pay for return shipping and trashing tons of these skillets?
Based on this product's noted propensity to break either during shipping or during use-- and in light of its notably skinny handle-- you may want to spring for thicker, slightly more expensive cast-iron cookware.
Customer Review: Cast Iron ROCKS! Summary: 5 Stars
I have to say - I LOOOOVE cast iron! Love it! It wasn't until the last few years that I discovered the joys of cooking with cast iron - both with Le Creuset enameled cookware and this fabulous Lodge Logic cast iron.
I use cast iron to cook nearly everything - It's heat retention and even cooking is superior to everything - including stainless steel - I have a few stainless steel pots, as well as cast aluminum - and nothing beat cast iron.
This skillet, in my mind, is a must-have for any kitchen. Anything you could use a skillet or frying pan for, you can use this. I've made the best homecooked steaks in this pan, phenomenal burgers, incredible fish, sauces, braised meats, you name it. Sear it on the stove top and throw it in the oven for a quick broil - do it all in this pan.
Best of all - the cheapest pan I own is the one that I use the most and will last me forever...Get this pan, you won't regret it!!
Customer Review: I'm still holding onto hope..... Summary: 4 Stars
I received my skillet over a week ago. I washed it, rubbed it down with oil and left it in the oven for an hour, just to be sure it was seasoned. I cooked sole fillets in it after adding a light layer of olive oil. The fish is very thin and I did have trouble with sticking. I washed it, oiled it, and dried it on the burner. A few nights later I tried the sole again for a large crowd. I used my teflon pan along side it because I was cooking so much. I continually had trouble with the cast iron pan sticking. I could walk away from the teflon pan and it consistently gave me evenly browned, non-stick fish. I can't say that about the cast iron pan. I kept having to add more oil. It was frustrating....but I am not giving up. I am really holding onto the hope that it will eventually become non-stick. I have read all the reviews and I am really hoping you guys know what you are talking about!!! It almost sounds too good to be true at this point.
Customer Review: Good, old cast iron Summary: 5 Stars
I hesitated to buy cast iron cookware because of the weight. Although this is a pretty heavy skillet, it's easy to lift because it's been engineered properly - the handle is short, so it's closer to the center of gravity, so to speak, and the tab on the opposite side makes it very easy to pick up for this geezerette with arthritic hands. I love the almost-straight sides, and the depth. Ths first thing I used it for was to bake a cake, and it was perfect! The instructions say to keep the heat fairly low, so it doesn't get too hot. I have an electric range that takes a long time to heat up, so I have found that I do need to turn the heat up to medium high to get the pan properly heated. I actually bought this pan for cooking pancakes and bacon, but it's great for lots of things. Not sure I'd use it for recipes with delicate ingredients, like cream, because it doesn't cool off quickly, but it certainly has a permanent place in my kitchen.
Customer Review: Excellent Product Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this pan in a store for twice what it cost on Amazon, but it's such a great product I have no regrets.
This is superb for searing meat and stir fries and so on, and the non-stick capacity improves with each use (with none of the adverse health issues assoicated with modern non-stick surfaces that are so easy to damage).
Cleanup on this product is a breeze. After use just wash with a brush, don't use soap, dry, and either heat it on the burner to get rid of any remaining water on the surface (which is what I do) or spray it with a cooking spray such as Pam (or lightly rub it with cooking oil and a paper towel [I don't do it this way because it seems unnecesary, but it's what's recommended, perhaps in more humid climates like at the ocean than the one I live in]).
It's very nice that you can buy a Cook's Illustrated top performer at such a very reasonable price.
