Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Lodge Logic 3-Quart Covered Chicken Fryer, Black

Customer Review: Love it!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this inexpensive pot along with a piece of calphalon. I must say, I like the cast iron better! What a great pot, the size is perfect for those quick prepackaged items us working moms make like rice-a-roni, hamburger helper and scalloped potatoes. Yes its heavy, but it's easy to clean and I just leave it sitting my stove. It takes a little to get used to the proper cooking temperatures, so be careful. Also, I would advise getting the tiny handle cover, because the handle does get very hot. I make my daughter home-made chicken tenders at least once a week, and they came out the best ever using this pot. Prior to this I had been using calphalon and it doesn't make the chicken near as crisp and perfect. Love it!

Customer Review: Frugal Pizza Stone
Summary: 5 Stars

I make focaccia in this fryer because cast iron is more durable and cheaper than ceramic pizza stones. I don't really need the lid except to keep dust out of the pan when not in use. For the first year of ownership, I did not have any positive experiences with this item. Then I got a nylon brush and used it with baking soda to give the interior a thorough cleaning and then I finally understood what a cast iron nonstick surface looks like. So I recommend my cleaning method to the seasoning process otherwise your kitchen and your pores will be filled with the most godawful greasy shellacing.

I regretted the money spent on the lid but I recommend this size fryer over the shallower pans and skillets.

Customer Review: mmmm fried chicken!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Oven or skillet or both...this is the best fryer!
I ordered several different lodge logic cast iron pots and skillets for myself for Christmas. I'm so glad I did! These arrived super fast, packaged perfect, and were everything I thought they would be. Unlike other reviewers...I have no rust spots or damage on any of my lodge logic products. I loved that they were pre-seasoned...but I seasoned them myself anyway. Doesn't take long and only ensures a great cooking experience. I was so tired of buying pots, pans and skillets only to buy more sooner rather than later as they wore out. These will last a life-time! I highly recommend this and other lodge logic cast iron ware.

Customer Review: Although I love Lodge cast iron........
Summary: 4 Stars

I really can't give this piece a 5 star rating. I have other pieces that are 5 star, but this piece is a little more cumbersome than useful. Also, there is the preseasoned coating to deal with. My other pieces were no problem, I love them, always have and always will. But this one leaves a disagreeable taste in the food. I guess my only alternative is to sand it down to the bare metal and start over with the seasoning. And as others have said, the smaller bottom surface tends to limit what I can use it for. I wish it had a straighter upward side wall instead of the slope.. Other than that, I am a happy Lodge customer and will continue to add to my cast iron collection!

Customer Review: Bargain of bargains
Summary: 5 Stars

This big hunk of iron is one of the greatest things in my kitchen. It's great for frying chicken (as you might expect). But it's also wonderful for frying anything else you can imagine (it never lets me down with catfish), making pralines, cooking cornbread, making a mess of jambalaya, any sort of soup that strikes your fancy, or, well, you get the point.

Care is easy, easy, easy--especially if you re-season the skillet on a yearly basis.

You'll keep this pan for at least a decade--which means that you'll pro-rate the cost down to well under a penny a day. Can you beat that? No, really, if you can, I want to know about it.
