Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Lodge Color 6-Quart Dutch Oven, Island Spice Red

Customer Review: Lodge Cast Iron or other cast iron which one should you buy?
Summary: 5 Stars

I used to be a housewares rep and I am also a professionally trained chef. I own both LeCruset enameled cast iron and Lodge enameled cast iron. I had the pleasure of going to visit Lodge and having a tour of their facility. They are very focused on making sure the iron they use to make all cast iron cookware is safe to use. I recently purchased two Lodge Logic EC6D43 6 quart dutch ovens for my children for Christmas. The foundry in China where Lodge makes their product is strictly overseen and protects the consumer from purchasing cookware that may have radio active iron included in their product. They are an American Company owned and operated by the original founders of Lodge.

If you want to buy a high quality product and save yourself some money in the process I highly recommend this product. Love it!

Customer Review: Love this Dutch Oven!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been trying to cook ahead more for our busy life and have been watching Rachael Ray's Week in a Day, and reading The Pioneer Woman's Cookbook. Both of these use a dutch oven, which I didn't own and didn't know what it was. It is basically an oversized cast iron skillet with enamel over the iron. It has been WONDERFUL and I use it for everything. As a bonus, things like overcooked spaghetti sauce don't stick and it's very easy to clean. Plus, it doesn't have that metallic smell and rustiness that the cast iron skillets have. I would highly, highly recommend it. The only down side is that although Lodge Logic is a USA company and their cast iron skillets are made in USA, this says made in China, and I usually don't buy anything from China. However, I tested the enamel for lead and found none, so I kept it.

Customer Review: You get what you pay for.
Summary: 3 Stars

This is a great item for the price. Compared to le creuset. Not even close. Interior enamel not as easy to clean as le creuset. Cooks and works like le creuset? Again, no way. You get what you pay for here. If you don't use often item may last few years. Save your money and buy le creuset or staub. Un-like other reviewers here who will try to tell you both this item and le creuset are made at the same factory in china and even use the same enamel this is 100% false. As a long time le creuset owner. I have done the research. Be very careful buying le creuset online. there are a lot of fakes out there if le creuset is being sold or shipped from Australia it is 99% for sure a fake. If you want le creuset at best possible price. Premium outlet stores only and always ask to make sure item is not a factory second.

Customer Review: favorite pot
Summary: 4 Stars

I call this my magic pot because everything I cook in it is perfection. Sauteeing, frying, braising, stewing, soup -- you name it, this pot has done an exceptional job. After 3 years of almost everyday use, I can see the enamel thinning at the bottom which is why there is a minus on the star. But I am very well pleased with it regardless. I must confess though that I did not give it the proper care it needed. It is very easy to clean though heavy and I must have scratched it with the wrong sponge at times. Three years ago I purchased it at forty dollars, a good deal. I am now looking for an addition (future replacement) and saw that prices have doubled. What's up with that?
Also I love the color of this pan. i take photos of my dishes and the red color gives the photos a classic look :)

Customer Review: Good for the price
Summary: 5 Stars

Please be aware that the bottom of the dutch oven is not of equal measure to the diameter of the pot. The base is smaller and the inside is rounded which initially I was disappointed by. One of my reasons for purchase was my desire to make fried chicken in my cast iron pot - there is no better way to make fried chicken - and I was pleasantly surprised. The heat distribution was uniform and the transition to the oven turned out perfect, golden fried chicken. Have used the pot seveal times, yes there is some staining of the enamel, but this is a cooking utensil - not a museum piece - I don't have a problem with the way it looks - I just want it to perform. Of course I had wanted a Le Crueset, but was offset by the price. This is a product that performs well and well worth the price.
