You can cook almost anything in a dutch oven with or without the Lid Lifter. Assuming you're outside, a branch will probably do the same job. Nevertheless, The lifter is well built and provides a solid lifting mechanism for the heavy lids. If you're lugging arround a dutch oven than the additional weight of this lifter won't make much of a difference.Customer Review: Gets the job done.

Very well constructed and a must have if you like to dutch oven. Does exactly what you would expect it to pick up dutch oven lids and dutch ovens. My only complaints would be that it does not stand up very well by it's ends (three prong area) so you have to lay it flat on the ground and it is a little shorter than the lid lifters used to be.Customer Review: Don't buy a Dutch Oven without one

I made the big mistake of getting a Dutch Oven and not ordering this at the same time. Pliers don't work, gloves don't work, a fireplace poker doesn't work. The lid lifter makes removing the lid to check on your food a simple, stable and ash-free process. Don't make the same mistake I did. When you buy your Dutch Oven, buy the lid lifter.Customer Review: works but definately china made quality.

This little gadget does work but you can definately tell that it is made in china. Bar on hook end is not centered. Bar on handle is not square to handle. I wish they would note that it was made in china. I would not have bought it if I had known it was made in china.You can get ones made in u.s.a. for same price.Customer Review: Handy tool

This lid lifter can be used to safely pick up the lid of your dutch oven when hot. It has a counter balance tip that holds the lid securely so it does not slip. Also the tip can be used to pick up your dutch oven by the bail handle to move it, or to move other items.
