The light on the page looks NOTHING like it does in the photo of the product. The light is very dim and uneven. It's the unevenness that makes the page hard to read. It makes it very difficult to scan your eyes across the page to read more than a couple of words at a time. So if you're reading anything technical, you can't see an entire mathematical equation or a line of computer code all at once.
The problem might easily be solved by the company inserting a few more LEDs in the product to fill in the dark spots. But they haven't addressed this for many years and don't seem likely to.
I bought a better book light that has a fluorescent bulb. It works beautifully and illuminates the page very evenly so that I can see the whole page at a glance.
Customer Review: Shadows make using it unsatisfactory

I bought both the original and the paperback version as gifts for my wife. She was very dissatisfied with both as the light they provide is marred by vertical shadows across the page which she found distracting. Evidently not everyone is bothered by these shadows, based on the positive reviews and the fact that in calling the manufacturer with the problem, I was told that that is how they worked and my only recourse was returning them to the place I bought them.
Since the packages had been opened, Amazon charged a steep re-stocking fee plus shipping and handling charges. I ended up paying about 40% of the price of the items for the total unstatisfactory experience.
I strongly recommend that you buy this item where you can try it first.

This is a pretty good product, but buying the paperback size and using it for larger books can be a bit annoying. Other bothersome things:
* The LEDs produce an interference pattern on the page if the light rests on the book directly. This is avoided by letting it sit just above the page.
* The plexiglass scratches very easily. The lens care kit and the soft case are necessities.
* The light is a little dim, but it is softer on the eyes than other book lights.
* Turning pages becomes a bit of an exercise, but you get used to it somewhat quickly.
Overall, its a good light that I would recommend - with accessories. The fact that you only need to change batteries and not lights is an added bonus.

I bought this reading light a few months ago. I was a little skeptical initially about how well it would work. I have gone through more Itty Bitty lights than I care to admit to (they are poorly designed junk). After some initial time to get used to using this light, I am generally pleased. Its been the only light that hasn't disturbed my wife's sleep when I use it. I just recently ordered the full size version for hardcover and larger softcover books. I have left the protective plastic sheet over the lucite lense and have not experienced any scratching problems. The batteries do last a while and the light will gradually dim, telling you its time for new batteries. This light is worth trying.Customer Review: Unwieldy

I purchased the paperback-book sized model. Upon opening the product, noticed the surface was already marred with splotches that do not come out. Also, as previous reviews state, the LightWedge scratches very easily. As for the light switch, the middle one does not work. For reading in bed, although the light is soothing, it is very uncomfortable to turn the page and readjust holding the device.
I was really hyped up when I learned of this product (on Oprah) and was going to buy both sizes at once. I am glad I did not. It's a good try, but not quite the perfect book light I was hoping for.
