Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of LightWedge Original LED Book LightCustomer Review: not useful for bedtime reading Summary: 3 Stars
My wife bought this for me so that I would be able to read at night without keeping the lights on. I read both magazines and fictional books, which are smaller in dimension. There are 2 problems with this product:
1) It is NOT 1-size-fits-all. It was not easy to use this lightwedge with the smaller fictional books. So I would have to buy another $25 wedge for the smaller size.
2) It also requires 4 AA batteries which make the black grid-end of the wedge heavier. This caused the lightwedge to keep slipping while trying to read lying down.
On the other hand, if you're looking to just read on a plane or elsewhere sitting up, then this product is good. We, however, returned this and are looking for other alternatives.
Customer Review: Not perfect, but close Summary: 4 Stars
This product is far better than clip-on booklights, which illuminate only part of the page. This one fits "standard" hardcovers fine, but it's usable on other size books. It's plenty bright for my 50-year-old eyes, which don't work in dim light. In fact, if I wake up at 2 AM and need to read to fall back asleep, the "bright" setting is too bright, so I use "dim." Light is white (slightly blueish) not green as some have reported. Illumination is not perfectly uniform, but good enough. I've had it for 3 weeks, no scratches yet, but I notice that it works better if I clean off the dust every few pages. Turning the page and moving the lightwedge takes only a second, not a real problem. Overall, I highly recommend it!
Customer Review: Best Book Light I Ever Owned Summary: 4 Stars
This is the best book light I've ever owned, and has made reading in bed next to my husband a real possibility for the first time in our marriage. It's plenty bright, very convenient, and the batteries last a long time. It's also handy as a nightlight in a pinch.
I'm only giving it four stars though, because they need to make a few improvements. First, it's a bit heavy. When you're trying to balance a book, and this nightlight, it can occasionally feel like a juggle. Second, it scratches and smudges like crazy. I personally don't mind it--I can read through the scratches and smudges without issue, but eventually, I'll buy another one, or a cover for it.
Customer Review: Not big enough Summary: 1 Stars
The small Light Wedge is not wide enough for a paperback book and the large lightwedge is not wide enought for large paperback books. An example of a large paperback book is "Windows XP Inside OUT 2nd Edition.
Thw wedges with the plastic cap along the outside edge of the page is tall enough to go from the top to the botton of the page but is 1 to 1 1/2 inches to narrow to go from the outside to the inside bound edge. This makes to wedge not very reading friendly. Large book 9 1/4 inches high and 7 1/4 inches wide. Large Wedge 8 3/4 inches high and 5 1/4 inches wide. The small wedge is perportionally about the same to small paperback book.
Customer Review: The only option... Summary: 5 Stars
I have tried numerous booklights over the years and they all seemed to require that I spend more time fooling with them then actually reading. Several that I have tried seemed to fall apart within a few weeks of using them, or required frequent battery changes. The Lightwedge looks at the problem in a whole new light (pun intended) and I have one that I have used regularly for more then two years now (without the scratch problem that others mention, it only sits on a book page and the pages I read are generally pretty soft). We recently got another one for the kids to use on car trips, since the overhead light is so bothersome to me as the driver.
