Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of LightWedge NightVision LED BooklightCustomer Review: Perfect for astronomical star sky charts Summary: 5 Stars
I am the director of an astronomical observatory (HGO). After using the red colored light wedge, I switched almost completely from red-lensed flashlights and other red led lighting systems to the wedge. The wedges can be wall mounted over a chart table for direct lighting or slipped behind computer generated sky charts - just keep the charts one sided. For reading sky reference books at the telescope and drawing galactic clusters (which is our main activity), the wedge is the best we've found so far for light. There are two light intensities - we start high and switch to low as our eye's adapt to darkness. The only problem is scratching the plastic lens. To prevent this, we slip the wedge into a paper sheet protector and attach it with a metal clip. It's a big improvement over red flashlights.
Customer Review: To dim to read by Summary: 2 Stars
We really enjoyed the original LightWedge and were buying a 2nd one. I picked the red, NightVision LightWedge LightWedge NightVision LED Booklight with the idea that it would be less obtrusive to my wife when she was trying to fall asleep. That worked as planned, but unfortunately it is also too dim for me to read by comfortably. It might work for reference material if night vision were important, but not for reading a story or similar text. I will buy a 2nd, original LightWedge LightWedge Original Book Light (Black). It isn't too obtrusive and is easy to read by.

Customer Review: Very Cool Product Summary: 4 Stars
That sums up my reaction and the reaction when others see me whip out my lightWedge. I actually bought the one I'm reviewing for an astronomer friend of mine who seems to love it. I bought my first one two years ago, its the one for paperback books, and it is one of the most useful gadgets I've purchased in a long time. It simply works, the batteries last a long time, and most importand of all - my wife and I can remain married even though I need to wake up and read in the middle of the night sometimes, and she's a light sleeper. All of the LightWedges are great products and I would highly recommend them. Why only four stars? I wish I could get red in any LightWedge size instead of just the one.
Customer Review: Good for bedtime reading but scratches easily Summary: 3 Stars
PROS: It does a nice job lighting up the page without distubing your spouse.
CONS: I saw other reviews that noted how easily this item could get scratched up. I decided to order the accompanying bag to prevent damage. I was very careful with it, ensuring that I didn't just leave it laying out on a table and kept it in the bag when not being used. Unfortunately, I still wound up with quite a few scratches. Also, I didn't care for having to always hold the light wedge in place. I ended up giving it away to a friend and bought a Sony Touch and the reader cover with the light.
Customer Review: An Astronomer's Friend Summary: 4 Stars
I was hesitant to buy this because of the cost, but once I got a gift certificate for Amazon, I figured I'd give it a whirl!
It works as well as I expected!!!
I use mine out when I'm observing with my telescopes. It does a great job of preserving my night vision while lighting my sky charts when I'm hunting down faint fuzzies!
It fits my Pocket Sky Atlas perfectly =-)
The only nit I've got is the fact that it doesn't like rechargeable batteries. It works fine on standard alkaline AAA batteries, but when I put in my NiHD batteries, it refuses to work.
