Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Lello 1375 Ariete Cafe Prestige Coffee MakerCustomer Review: Watery milk froth Summary: 3 Stars
I had this machine for 2 years and was Very happy with it until the seal in the main unit where the water tank connects broke and I found it was Not replicable. Oh Well I said, I'll get another one of these because I was So Happy with it.
The first one I received made watery milk froth. No matter how I ground the beans, no matter how firmly I tamped the grounds nor how full I filled the filter, nor how long I let the steamer flow, there was Always water in the steam. Just running the frother by itself you could see the water it gave out.
Amazon's great service gladly replaced the unit as I figured I just had a bad one.
The replacement did the same thing, Watery steam which makes watery milk So I returned it for a refund and purchased another model.
Amazon stated they would cease sales of the unit until they found out what the issue was and they would let me know when the issue was resolved and they began sales again.
Well they didn't notify me they began sales again but it is available now so I ASSUME the watery steam is fixed.
So this is an Excellent, Heavy duty machine IF there is no water in the steam. My new model produces steam with no water streaming from it and these Should too. So if you see water streaming with the steam, let it run several seconds and if it doesn't clear up you will have watery milk. Watery milk makes lousy froth and watery drinks.
Just a warning
Customer Review: Finally Arrived Summary: 5 Stars
I as many others on this review list ordered mine in July (9th) and was extremely frusterated by the constant pushing out of the order. I emailed and called amazon multiple times, and the first 3 times I didn't really get anywhere. The 4th time I was able to talk with someone who had a clue and apologized for the delay and provided a overnight upgrade. The reason I was so mad about the pushout is that Amazon actually got an earlier shipment of these units and I didn't get one even though I found out that others had obtained the units and they ordered after I did but chose a faster ship method than "free." They also charged me initially for the upgrade, but I called yet again and they removed the charge.
Now to the product review:
This is a really cool unit. It is extremely solid, and I rate it extremely well compared to the other cappuccino makers. It is also a lot nicer than the delongi system I had before. Believe me, after waiting for 5months I scoured the earth for another one that would be comperable and I couldn't find one. It does a great job, and I am glad I waited to get this unit and didn't cancel as I was tempted multiple times. The bad side is that if it took them this long to actually get the unit, if it ever needs repairs we are in trouble. If I ignore the downside of service and just rely on my happiness with this maker (and on a cappuccino high) I give it 5 stars.
Customer Review: Nice for the price! Summary: 5 Stars
This machine is excellent for the price, easy to clean, huge water tank, and easy to use, really happy with my purchase!
We have had it for about 6 months now and I can make store quality lattes at home, with the right burr grinder, we have the Saeco Titan which sells for 130$ everywhere but we got at Costco for 70$. The grinder really does make a difference in the quality of your espresso.
I had a few user errors when I first got it and it would make what I call "fluffy" shots where it would sputter coffee out but I solved that problem by running a plain water shot through before the espresso shot.
I appreciate the huge water tank and how easy it is to see the water levels, and the ease of clean I can put the two metal parts in the dish washer and to clean by hand there aren't any awkward corners to scrub. The machine is heavy and sturdy! It can take up to five minutes to heat up for the first shot of the day but I keep my self busy grinding, getting cups and milk ready.
We had the the Krups XP4030 for about 2 years, which we bought at Bed Bath and Beyond, the machine died twice in the time we had it but we kept the box and the instruction manual and were able to exchange it for a new one each time. I was never able to get the same kind of espresso as I am from the Lello, and it was harder to clean.
Customer Review: Happy Camper Summary: 4 Stars
The Lello 1375 makes as good of a latte as you get at "four bucks" for a lot less and you get the convience of doing it at home. The machine is a little slow to warm up and recover (because of the small heating element) but this is a minor grip. A little more major is the flimsy design of the water tank lid. You get the impression it could easily break off if not handled very carefully. The machine is almost all metal and the designers did a good job with the machine's style. It looks good sitting on the counter. Of particular note is the height of the installed grounds basket above the base which makes it possible to use a full size mug to catch the coffee. Additionally, the water tank is large so you can go through several coffee cycles before you have to refill. The machine has good heft and does not slide around on the counter when attaching the grounds basket. I was moving up from an entry level pump expresso maker with this purchase and the Lello 1375 is a significant improvement over my previous machine. The long term durability of the Lello is a question mark but thus far I have not had any problems. I recommend the Lello 1375 Coffee Maker to almost everyone. It is about double the cost of an entry level pump expresso maker but the machine is a significant step up in design. I do not think you will be disapointed.
Customer Review: Great for novices as well as pros Summary: 5 Stars
I owned an espresso machine nine years ago and was so disappointed that I didn't buy another until now. After reading a number of Amazon reviews on this machine and others, I discovered that I needed a pump-driven system to get the kind of espresso sold in espresso bars (not just strong coffee, which results from steam-driven systems). This Lello is the best pump-driven espresso machine for the price. With very little experience, I made a perfect latte on my second try. (The first time I didn't have the reservoir attached properly.)
Important aspects:
- lots of room between the filter holder and the drip tray, which means you can use a standard coffee mug to collect the espresso (which is necessary if you don't yet own an espresso glass, cup, or carafe)
- sturdy design
- lots of room between the steaming nozzle and the drip tray, so that you can fit a good-sized pitcher
- heats up very quickly
- easy to use
Minor drawbacks:
- Perhaps most people already own the accessories needed to make an espresso right out of the box, but I did not and would have liked a few starter items to come with the unit (such as an espresso shot glass).
- If you don't use the rubber foaming piece, it is hard to clean soy milk off the stainless steaming nozzle.
