Just got mine a week ago. First thing I noticed after unpacking was the cloudy liquid.
I could not ever see the lava.
I did some research and found out that this is a normal problem with the Grande's and they need to
be shipped in a up-right possition with FRAGIL written on the box.
Amazon just lay the lamp on its side in a huge outer box with no special handling markings.
I am told if you run the lamp about 4 hours a day (allowing the wax to completly harden between use)
and do this for a few weeks, it will clear up.
I have put mine in the basement, where it is cool and put a timer on it.
I know you can open these up and replace the liquid, but that will be my last resort.
It has cleared up a little in the few days I have been running it.
This will be the only and last Grande LL I buy from Amazon.
I will get my next one directly from the manufacturer, even though its alot more money, at least they
know how to ship them.

LATEST EDIT (16 Feb 2011): I called LavaLite about my cloudy Grande and they admitted to me that this is a MANUFACTURING
defect and will replace them.
Many vendors have discontinued selling the Grande's until the problem is solved and the new 2011 globes start
shipping.
DO NOT buy one unless you are sure it is not from the old defective stock.
If you are stuck with a cloudy LL, please call them and they will send you a replacement globe (dont ask how long
this will take, I am still waiting!!)
UPDATE: 21 Feb 2011;
Received my replacement Grande a week ago (yes, it's cloudy too!!). In the box is a note (this is new) that says "Due to shipping, your lamp my appear
cloudy, running it for 3 to 5 days SHOULD clear up the issue"
Well, I followed their advice, and it's still cloudy.
I also found out that these are not made in the US anymore, they are now made (very cheaply) in china.
I have a 52oz lava lamp I bought in the 90's when made in the US. It was 50something bucks, the same lamp now is only about $20.
Comparing the 2 is a BIG difference in quality.
Although you could well be one of the lucky ones and receive a nice clear lamp, the odds are againts this happening, and some
people who have never seen the original (made in the US) lamps, will not know that they are not supposed to look like they do now.
My advise, do not buy their product. Find a lamp from eBay that was made in the 90's or before and see the difference for your self.
Shame on LavaLite!
UPDATE: ARE YOU STUCK WITH A CLOUDY GRANDE?
Please read, there is a way to fix it. The China made Grande's will never clear up on their own. There is only one tried and true method,
use a MSR filter pump to filter the water in your lamp:

I have filtered 4 lamps with this pump, and they are all crystal clear.
If you want to do it, let me know and I will give you instructions step-by-step.
This is the only proven method, used by the lava light collectors at OozingGoo.com forum.
Trust me, you will be very happy with the results, and it's not hard to do :)
