Customer Review: Great lunch box alternative

I've been researching the bento lunch idea for a while and decided to try it for my 5 yr old. I have multiple bento boxes - some that are character and double-decker, some that are large and tall enough to fit prepackaged yogurt, and this particular set. The set comes exactly as depicted in the photo. Some of the smaller boxes come with lids and others do not. Obviously, don't put something with liquid in a container without a lid. You can leave boxes out for larger spaces (such as a sandwich). You have a compartment on the side for silverware (included) or a napkin. depending on how you arrange the containers you can fit the juice box in the purple larger container, or just put it on the side in the carrying case. There is a pocket for an ice pack (although I wish they made the netting larger to accommodate different types/sizes of ice packs. I found the ones made by rubbermaid and thermos work well.)
A downside to the box is that it won't accommodate something as tall as a prepackaged apple sauce, etc. Bento lunches are made to be appropriatly portioned and home-made. If you are thinking of using this as a normal lunchbox, it is definitely not what you want. I wanted something that would include smaller portions of foods like hand-cut fruit, sandwiches, snacks, rice balls, etc.
Another downside is opening the box. It can be hard for a child, however, you can remedy it by taking a knife and scoring the lip of the latch down so it is easier to open. My 5-yr old can open it just fine now and it stays latched because I didn't score it down too much. My child really likes this lunchbox and I'm happy I got it. My recommendation would be to do more research on bento options and see which type of box is best for you.
