With my new slicer I am able to make yam chips, my new favorite snack. I take a yam and carefully slice the yam holding the yam with my hand instead of the guard that comes with the slicer. The guard is almost worthless with yams but work with softer vegetables like potatoes. After the yams are sliced I line them up and using a knife, slice them in about 3/4-1 inch strips, then, deep fry until crispy like a potato chip. The yam strips fry more evenly than full chips and look better. My only reserve with the slicer is it could be dangerous to your fingertips if care is not exercise. Definitely not for use by children--even if supervised.
