Years ago I was given a Kuhn Rikon veggie peeler. It was a little promo cheapy and my introduction to horizontal peelers. Sadly that peeler died. I found this fellow and am very happy that I did. This little guy makes peeling potatoes, carrots and other roots a easy & quick job. I haven't used it on tomatoes so I cannot speak to that feature.
Addendum: November 8, 2008:
I have tried, unsuccessfully, to use this peeler on winter squash. It really does not have the strength to be able to handle the thicker skin. I am, however, still quite happy with the peeler for its intended uses. I still have not peeled tomatoes but cannot imagine why anyone would want to peel a tomato.
