Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Kuhn Rikon Epicurean Garlic PressCustomer Review: Best Garlic Press Made! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this garlic press after seeing it on America's Test Kitchen but I was a little concerned about spending $40 on a garlic press. Now that I have it I am convinced that it is worth every penny. This press if very well made, heavy duty stainless steel, and cleans up easily. I have run mine through the dishwasher many times with no ill effects. The only concern I have about this press is that you have to be careful when sqeezing it that you don't get the palm of you hand in between the two handles when they come together. I did this once and it was not pleasant. Other than that you can stuff this thing full of garlic and it has plenty of leverage to mince it. When you or done just open it up and run it under some water and the little bit of garlic that remains easily comes off the inside of the mincer. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes to mince their own garlic rather than use jarred garlic.
Customer Review: Yeah, you really should spend $35 on this. Summary: 5 Stars
OK, I admit it. I am one of those people who finds the process of peeling and mincing garlic an irritation in an otherwise pleasurable experience. I love to cook so why that is, I do not know. Anyway, I started to rely on jarred minced garlic to avoid the hassle. And then, the Kuhn Rikon garlic press entered my life *angels sing*.
Along with finding out that you can microwave garlic cloves (up to 10, arranged in a circle) for 10 seconds and the skin will pop right off, this press is amazing. The "action" is simple, authoratative and straight-forward, producing PERFECT minced garlic, and YOU CAN CLEAN IT IN SECONDS. The two-part hopper allows you to rinse the residue off with zero effort. Done. It kind of makes you shake your head wondering why you endured lesser garlic presses for so many years.
Worth every single cent. Mmmmmm. Garlic.
Customer Review: High Quality kitchen gear! Summary: 5 Stars
I'm a musician (guitar/producer), so I'm a certified gear freak. I research gear extensively to find the best in show, and then work my way down from the top to the price point I can handle, if I can't buy in at the top. In this case, I had an Amazon coupon, which made this purchase a no brainer @ $11 out of my pocket.
This is a near perfect Garlic press. All stainless steel and very well engineered - very well thought out by a smart designer. It does an excellent job effortlessly, and it's quick and easy to clean. What more do you need?
Since both handles are made from one piece of stainless steel, they won't break like other units that have plastic handles joined to a steel crusher assembly - Oxo junk anyone?
At the full price, it's a bit hard to justify, but it's the kind of kitchen tool you can pass down to your kids.
Customer Review: Buy the best first and save $$$ Summary: 5 Stars
The positive reviews say it all and don't need any repeating by me. I want to speak to those who might feel guilty spending almost $40.00 for a garlic press. I find that when I try to save money by buying, for example, an Emeril 6 quart Trinity Pot (a Dutch oven made by All-Clad) for $100.00 instead of the LeCreuset I really want for $250.00 (so I can "save" $150.00), I ultimately spend $350.00 in order to get the pot that finally satisfies me, and I give the acceptable but not mind-blowing first purchase away (or use it as a backup that I don't really need). And the time I wasted by not using the best first, although not measurable in dollars, counts in the equation. I'm done with saying "Boy, I wished I had bought this first or a long time ago. What a difference!"
Don't fixate on "saving" $15 or $20. Just buy this and you'll know you have the best.
Customer Review: Is this in the Museum of Modern Art? Summary: 5 Stars
Superb performance, formidable yet beautifully designed device that is so cool I leave it out where friends can see it. It is large, unexpectedly heavy and a bit scary; at first I was worried that I was at the dentist and hallucinating (child/adolescent of the '60s--'nuf said), but after using it once I fell in love with its power and easy clean-up (you won't believe how easy it is to remove the crushed detritus from this thing), and now every entree has garlic and/or ginger pressed from the jaws of The Clove-inator! Cardiologist who recommended Ornish diet will be thrilled (in that carefully modulated manner that they must teach in med school) and I am happily losing weight with vegetarian, garlic and ginger-infused foods (which often make the potentially boring quite scintillating!). I hope it brings as much culinary happiness to you as it did me.
