I have been looking for - and buying - oversized spatulas, trying to find that perfect combination of quality construction, effective design and materials safe for all surfaces. Finally, I have found it.
This one is great because it relies on solid construction to provide strength and control when working in the pan or transferring from stove to plate. I need a spatula that can handle maneuvering delicate foods, like eggs, as well as transporting heavy but fragile foods, like a biscotti log. This is the first one that does both well.
The dimensions also seem ideal - yep, you can fit two cookies at a time on it. It's wide enough to prevent food from cascading off & long enough to fit under a large fish or omelet. If it were much larger, it wouldn't work in my 10" skillet, a problem I've found with jumbo spatulas that's really frustrating when you're trying to cook a small amount of food.
It doesn't have an unusual surface texture like some of its competition, so it's easy to clean and slide food off when you're ready. Of course, it's safe for nonstick pans, cookie sheets and heirloom ceramic dishes.
Also, mine has been remarkably durable through many uses; no melting, flaking, cracking or eroding of the spatula head. The handle is rock solid with no cleaning/separation problems at the seam where the two ends meet.
I've written critical reviews of my other attempts to find a good large spatula... if anything changes with the Kuhn Rikon, I'll update this review; but I suspect I'll be happy for a long time.
