Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Krups and Heineken B100 Beertender with Heineken Draught Keg Technology, Black and Stainless Steel

Customer Review: Product and company both get poor reviews
Summary: 1 Stars

First of all a disclaimer, I'm not Heather, I'm her husband. She just happens to have the Amazon account.

I received the B100 as a Christmas gift, opened on Christmas day. The day after Christmas, I searched for a mini keg to use. It took visits to 4 stores, apparently I wasn't the only one to get this. I hooked everything up that evening using a cold keg. It took a long time for the unit to light up the "ready" light (it's cold enough to drink). I didn't really think it was all that cold but that could just be my preference. In reading the instructions, I was a little concerned about the references to external heat. I didn't know where the final resting place was going to be, so I put it right out with me in the entertainment room as I was planning on playing video games most of the night. I put it on a wooden table, but since I was concerned about any heat the unit might have, I placed it on a very large plastic cutting board.

After the all clear light went on, I tried a glass, not as cold as I would like, but I chalked that up to personal taste. Several hours later, prior to going to bed I checked everything out. The drip pan was overflowing, the table was drenched, and beer had even spilled out on to the carpet.

When I opened the unit, it was full of beer, the keg actually floated to the top.

The leak was slow, and it's an enclosed unit, you can't even tell if your not looking.

Is this an exception, absolutely, but it did happen.

The table was damaged, not terribly, but warped. My great grandfather made it, so it has a bit of sentimental value. Not the brightest idea to put the B100 on it, but I really did so because of the other warning. Heat, keep it at least x inches from a wall, etc.

So on the Monday after Christmas, I contact Heineken. They were very responsive to the email. I should call them immediately! So I did. They kept asking why I didn't call KRPS. I told them it was because "they" were so concerned and wanted me to contact them.

They asked me a few questions, told me they would contact KRUPS, gave me a number for KRUPS, and would get back to me. I got a T-shirt in the mail and that's the last I heard from them.

Enter KRUPS. I contacted them via email, and they were initially quite responsive, a phone call, from a human! They were quite sympathetic, and sent me an RMA for the product, along with a separate claim form. I sent them the product, filled out the claim form, and waited. And waited some more. Eventually I sent them a couple of emails with no response.

So I called them. They had determined that the hose was bad, and since they got the hoses from Heineken, it was no longer an issue to them. But, as an act of good faith, they were going to send me a new unit. The new unit should be here in a few weeks. Fine, I might take that up with Heineken. I doubt I will get anywhere but what the heck.

So, here I sit 3 weeks later and nothing. I called KRUPS this morning and went through everything. "Sir, the order was not placed, I can do that for you". Seriously! Not even an apology, and yes, one was deserved.

I asked if they would at least expedite the shipping. "We usually don't do that". I guess I went off a bit (for me). I got this unit on 12/25/2010, it is now almost 3 months later. They have had it for over 6 weeks now, promised a return 3 weeks ago, forgot to even submit the paperwork, and don't even apologize or offer to expedite the shipping. Sorry, but this is a company you don't want to deal with. She said that she would put a note in the case for her supervisor, and maybe he could upgrade the shipping. Not holding my breath, just hoping it gets here. Simply pathetic.
