Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Krups GVX212 Electric Spice and Coffee Grinder with Grind and Cup Selection and Conical Burr Grinder, Black and Stainless SteelCustomer Review: Great grinder for the price. Summary: 5 Stars
I was looking at burr grinder for a while. Was leaning towards the expensive high-end brands (rancilio, mazzer), but I just couldn't justify spending over $100 for a grinder. Plus my wife wasn't going to let that happen, lol.
Long and short, we were at Linen and Things yesterday and I saw the Krups on sale for $30. I was reluctant, but my wife got it dispite my concerns. Well, after 3 grinding events, I'm very happy with the results. We use a medium grind for the coffee maker which tastes great. The fine grind for our espresso machine is good, too. Produces a nice crema layer (which I assume has to do with size of coffee grinds).
For $30, you can't beat the results. If you're really worried, go spend $200+.
Customer Review: Perfect LITTLE Grinder! Summary: 5 Stars
One other reviewer stated that this grinder is ungodly big - soooo not true. At a little under 10 inches tall, 5 inches deep, and 4 and 1/2 inches wide, this grinder is WAY smaller than my previous Cuisinart Burr Grinder which just recently broke. And the noise! DECIBLES quieter than my Cuisinart!!! It is such a low sound for a grinder. Mainly sounds a little louder than a murmur....First time I grinded coffee, I nearly jumped for joy that the volume was loads lower than my other one! Grinds were also very even. I grind in between medium and fine, and I did not see extremely powerdy grinds or even course grinds. Everything was very even in it's texture! Great grinder. I love it already!!!
Customer Review: Keeping it in the family Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this grinder about 4 years ago at Starbucks (at least it was on sale)and my daughter wanted a new but good and sturdy grinder for Christmas. When I was searching for the best one, was pleased to see that others had the same wonderful success with this one as I had. And my daughter picked this one because she had used mine before. It does a fantastic job with the various settings for different types of coffee whether espresso or drip. And it has additional settings for the amount of coffee. Simply tap the side of the container a couple times prior to pulling out the grounds reservoir to eliminate spilling. Holds lots of beans but isn't a huge machine to take up counter space.
Customer Review: Coffee the way you like it... Summary: 5 Stars
Having used a blade grinder for years, I was missing out. The coarse-to-fine selector makes a huge difference in how smooth or bitter my coffee brews. The hopper and grounds compartment holds plenty. I haven't experienced any problems so far. Grab this and some fresh beans, and after some experimentation with the settings you're bound to be impressed. Make the kind of coffee *you* want by buying this sweet buzzer.
UPDATE 12/5/2010: Five years later, this thing is still grinding awesome. I dropped the clear plastic hopper lid once, and chipped a tiny edge piece off it. It's barely noticable, and hasn't impacted the functionality at all. This thing is DURABLE.
Customer Review: this grinder sucks. Summary: 2 Stars
Okay, this is the first time i've written a review, but I had to because I'm usually very easy to please. NOT this time! This grinder (for $[...]) is awful. First of all, the SECOND time i used it, the grinder was running, yet the beans wouldn't go down into the grinder and it just whizzed away (which by the way, will throw off your cups measured if it thinks it's grinding and it's not). I had to knock on it just to get the beans to grind. THEN, the even on the coarsest setting, the ground coffee was WAY too fine. Just like baby powder. It made horrible coffee that was very bitter. And don't say it's my coffee maker. It's not. Very dissapointed.
