Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Krups FME214 Programmable 12-Cup Coffee Maker with Glass Carafe and LED Control Panel, Black

Customer Review: Great coffe but maker has issues
Summary: 3 Stars

This pot is our 2nd Krups and only lasted 2 1/2 years. The first one lasted 9. Although it brews great coffee, the new one has several issues. The lid drips excessively while pouring. If you check the booklet, it says to lightly open the lid while pouring and this does correct the problem while blowing hot steam over your fingertips. My husband cut the opening larger which helped. The water level tube always has a bubble in it giving you an inaccurate reading on the ounces of water you have poured in. The carafe is so thin that it is easy to break and allows the coffee to cool faster. What did ours in was the machine blew an internal fuse so the screen shows that the maker is empty ( and thus won't brew) when it is actually full. Thinking this would be easy to fix by ordering a fuse, when I turned the machine over, the screws on the bottom are none like ever before- star shaped with a metal post in the center. Obviously they don't want the users to fix their own machine. The closest repair shop is 4 hours away.

Customer Review: Worst coffeemaker I've ever owned
Summary: 2 Stars

I've been brewing my own coffee every morning for, well, decades. I'm not fussy; I just want a coffeemaker that brews a decent cup of joe, a coffeemaker I don't have to think about. I'll keep a coffeemaker for years, but I'm now trashing this Krups after only a few months. Why? Because despite making good coffee, the thing is an engineering FAIL in every other way. The carafe dribbles, every time. The carafe lid hinge broke within the first month. It's hard to read the water level on the side, a problem compounded by its propensity to collect an air bubble mid-way, rendering the measurement useless. Reprogramming the timer on the thing requires referring to the manual - nearly impossible to intuit one's way through it. Even sliding this coffeemaker forward on the counter is a problem, as the rubber "feet" insist on rolling out. It's like a creaky, phlegmatic antique - something I might tolerate in say, an Italian sports car, but not in the machine that needs to get me going every morning.

Customer Review: Best coffee machine....period!
Summary: 5 Stars

Tryed many different machines,(B&D new, Mr. Coffee, etc). This machine makes the best tasting coffee! I grind my whole bean coffee right before brew, my sife likes to use Folgers morning blend. Folgers takes ok, but whole bean is why much better.
Do yourself a favor and get this machine. If a part is needed aftera while, just go to [...] and order what you need. Replacement are reasonable priced. We had out last Krups machine for 4 years. It is the 10 cup stainless steel carafe, still working perfectly after falling off the tailgate of the van while packing on the way to our summer house rental. That was 2 years ago. However as all things go, making 4-5 pots of coffe 7 days a week, things wear out and we decided to treat ourselves to this new larger cup capacity machine. It's that good that we take our Krups coffee machine with us along with filtered O3 water. Nothing under 200 dollars can touch this coffee machine. Always the right temperature andevenly brewed everytime.

Summary: 3 Stars

I have had several Krups coffeemakers in the past few years and have generally been fairly pleased with their products. This most recent purchase of has not lived up to the previous purchases.
The first coffeemaker I received was defective in that the water did not flow through the channel. I contacted Ace (which you must do within three days of receipt of the product to receive a replacement) and received a label to return the item via UPS. It took the compmany another week to send a replacement.
I have used this coffeemaker now for over one week. I do not like the fact that the timer comes on daily automatically. My previous coffeemaker required me to turn on the timer which I did when placing coffee in the system for the next day. It would also have been nice to have the light on the clock luminated at all times rather than only when the system is in use. Overall, If I were to purchase a new coffeemaker it is highly unlikely that I would select this type again.

Customer Review: Multiple issues
Summary: 2 Stars

I have had Krups coffee makers before and have been very happy with them. I bought this one as a replacement for one that was old enough that when I broke the carafe I couldn't find a replacement. So, prior to this I have been very happy with them. However, this maker has had multiple problems. The programmable feature stopped working early on. Now the reminder beeps are stuck in the on mode. I wake up earlier than my husband and this drives him crazy. About a year into owning it, the outer part of the handle came loose. It reattaches, but frequently falls off in my hand and recently fell off in the dishwasher, hit the heating element and partially melted. Its newest problem (1 1/2 yr mark) is the basket door swinging open in the middle of brewing. I am on this site looking at reviews of other coffee maker brands since I am having so many problems with it that I have to replace it. On a positive note, I do like the quality of the coffee it makes.
