Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Krups 467-42 10-Cup Crystal Arome Time Coffee Maker, BlackCustomer Review: This is the perfect coffee maker! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought my first Krups Arome Time coffee maker a few YEARS ago, and I'm buying my 2nd one today. The timer functions are wonderful. I love being able to pour the water, add the coffee, & turn the auto-timer switch to "ON", then when I've finished beating up the snooze alarm in the morning, I have a nice fresh pot of coffee waiting for me. You only have to set the time that you want the brewing to begin once, and it remembers; after that, just turn on the switch.
It also allows you to adjust how long to keep the coffee pot on for up to 5 hours. If I happen to be called away before I've reached my daily "coffee quota", when I return, it's good to know the coffee is still fresh and hot until around noon-ish. Some people never drink coffee that late; personally, I NEED the 5 hours option! I haven't experienced any of the scorching or bitter taste that I've heard from others. And you don't have to worry about whether you turned the pot off before you left the house anymore; it will automatically shut itself off after the number of hours that you have previously set, or after 1 hour if you don't care to set or change the (automatic) shut-off timer.
I used to break coffee pots left & right, no matter how careful I tried to be, so when I bought this one, I thought I'd be smart and buy an extra carafe at the same time. It must have some thick heavy duty glass, because the coffee maker broke before the carafe did!
What finally did the coffeemaker in was a crack in the water hose, but only after a 2-year-long daily assault from chlorine- and calcium-loaded town water. One of these days I'm going to install an industrial-strength water filter at the plumbing end of my house instead of placing the burden on my appliances.
In the meantime though, the charcoal filters for this Krups coffeemaker really make a difference in how fresh the coffee tastes compared to other coffee makers, even with my town water. And a little red light starts flashing when it's time to change the charcoal filter. The filters can be purchased at Bed, Bath, & Beyond or Amazon.com. In order to reset the flashing light, just press a small gray button on the front. Whether you choose to actually replace the charcoal filters is up to you, but I'd recommend changing them as often as "it" tells you, especially when you're using municipal water.
Since I liked the timer features so much (and the coffee didn't taste bad, either), and I've still got a brand new carafe (sitting in a dusty old box) and a few charcoal filters left, I didn't hesitate to decide to buy another Krups Arome Time coffeemaker, same make and model.
I would also recommend that you buy the gold Krups coffee filter instead of buying and messing with the paper filters. It also helps to keep the taste fresh.

Even if your tap water has more in common with a public pool than a mountain spring you'll be able to make a delightful pot of coffee thanks to the unique crystal filtration system. And you can program this machine to have your pot ready and waiting to greet you first thing in the morning, which is bound to make rolling out of bed a little easier. Equipped with a dual filter to remove chlorine and minerals from tap water, this coffeemaker brews up to ten 5-ounce cups of full-flavored coffee with no off taste and prolongs the intervals between decalcification. The water filter is just one of the features distinguishing this handsome, compact coffeemaker. Thanks to an electronic control panel with a LCD display, the warming plate can be programmed to shut off automatically, and the 24-hour clock/timer can be set for brewing wake-up coffee. Other features include a 20-second pause in the brewing cycle when the glass carafe is removed for a midbrew pour, a carafe lid that seals in flavor and aroma, a warning light that indicates when the water filter needs replacing (replacement filters can be ordered separately), and an easy-to-read water-level window. The coffeemaker measures 7-1/4 inches wide, 12-1/2 inches high, and 11-1/2 inches deep (including carafe handle). --Fred Brack
