We just got the Krups ice cream maker and WOW does it work fast. Very easy to assemble/disassemble, incredibly easy to clean, and it 'froze' the icecream in under half an hour.So far our biggest issue- it's not even really a problem- is that many of the ice cream recipes we've found are for larger canisters. If you use the Krups, you'll simply have to pay close attention to how much ice cream a recipe makes, and cut back on the batch as needed. Because Krups recommends chilling precooked custard bases overnight and because the custard base can keep in the fridge a few days, if you make too large a batch of custard, you can simply run half the batch of custard at a time.

This is definately THE way to make ice cream that is both healthy and tasteful. We have used the machine about 6-7 times, and always get consistent results. You do have to prefreeze the bowl, so it IS inconvenient to use if your freezer is always full. Also, the machine is slow. Even if you precool your cream/milk/flavor mixture before adding to the machine, you can expect to wait almost one hour until you get results from the mixer. To boot, the results are like a thick slushy consistency. To get hard ice cream, you then need to freeze your ice cream another couple of hours. Would say that overall, you need 3-4 hours for hard packed ice cream. It sure does taste good, however...Customer Review: Loved it until the bowl leaked

I loved this ice cream maker. It was so convenient to keep the bowl in the freezer and make the ice cream whenever I wanted it. I used it 20 or 30 times. After my last use, I cleaned and dried the bowl as always, but didn't have the room in the freezer at the time. I put the bowl in my cabinet. Several months later I got the bowl out to put it in the freezer and the bottom was filled with the gel from inside the bowl's wall. I noticed a small pin hole in the bowl near the bottom. I thought it was a fluke and was ready to buy a replacement bowl, but read all the online reviews of people having similar problems with the bowls. Now I think I'll just look at another maker instead.Customer Review: terribly flimsy (re)design

Years ago, I bought the predecessor to this model. It was maybe not the most beautiful-looking machine, but it was solid and it worked very well. Alas, I dropped the bowl and broke it, and could not find replacement parts.So I decided to buy the new model. To my utter disppointment, the current model is an extremely flimsy redesign. The lid is hard to fit, the paddle doesn't fit snugly in the bowl, and doesn't scrape the sides very well, nor is it very good at stirring up the ingredients.
I have used it once, to make sorbet, something that was always a cinch with the old model. With this model, the result was a disaster. I am returning it to the store.

This machine is SO easy to use. If you follow the recepies that come with this unit you won't go wrong. It might seem strange to heat up the ingredients as you go, but it works. Make sure the mixture is chilled before putting it in the machine to process. Also, put the mixture in some type of pouring device as you add it to the machine or it will go all over. A mixing bowl is not good enough. I leave the bowl that comes with the unit in the freezer all the time so I am always ready to make more ice cream. Processing should take 30-40 minutes. It has never failed me. Clean up is simple. This is a great great product and an excellent value. Have fun!
