Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Krups 203-70 Electric Coffee and Spice Grinder with Stainless-Steel blades, White

Customer Review: Best grinder out there...
Summary: 5 Stars

In terms of features, this grinder is barebones but its ability to produce a grind to your desire, no matter how fine, makes it the best on the market. We have one of these at work that sees action daily and it's been kicking as strong as day one for years. At first I bought the Mr. Coffee grinder with the selectable grind and capacity. It was a piece of junk - it would take me 3x on the max settings to get a fine grind. I returned it and decided to stop messing around and just pony up for the real deal (which turned out to be only $2 more). This will grind the beans so fine that it gets packed into clumps at the bottom and usually requires a spoon to scoop out every last bit. I will say that the motor lets out a strong smell but I'm guessing that's because it's still new.

Customer Review: Great!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been using this for a few weeks. It's the cleanest coffee grinder I've ever used-- there's no way for it to clog, like most Burr mills seem to, and the top, assuming it's not that full, comes off easily without spilling a large amount of coffee as happens with every other coffee mill I've ever owned. It's quiet, but then again, I bought this to replace a black and decker machine that was louder than a jet engine.

If I have one complaint it's that it's hard to make coarse grinds. Fortunately for me, I don't usually like coarse grinds-- but I find that even I wanted it any less fine, I'd have to deal with large, unground coffee bean particles... Naturally this is going to happen with a blade mill, but it's just a minor disadvantage.

Customer Review: First Rate Appliance
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm new to grinding coffee, so I began a search of these appliances at Amazon.com and came upon this particular model. Since I only drink coffee a couple of times a week, I didn't need a "heavy duty" grinder that could prepare enough grounds for 100 cups. I read the reviews and took a chance. I've only used it around 4 or 5 times, but I'm really impressed with it so far. I took the advice of one of the reviewers and purchased a good, nylon brush to clean out the grounds. It's a well made, sturdy appliance that anyone could use. It's easy on the wallet and doesn't take up much space on my kitchen counter. I recommend it highly. My coffee tastes better now because I'm starting with fresh beans as opposed to prepared grounds.

Customer Review: Best I ever bought
Summary: 5 Stars

Only quibble I have is that it can (or rather my husband can) be a bit messy.
The little black button you see in the picture is the 'on' button and it protrudes slightly. The grounds are collected in the transparent cup.
My old grinder I just flipped upside down and tapped the cup on the bench to get all the grounds out of the drum and tidily into the cup. With this one if you do that you press the 'on' button and it whizzes round again. So you have to either switch it off at the wall and turn it upside down or shake it about. And of course nobody fiddles about like that, right? so when you pull out the cup you often get flying coffee grounds.

But I wouldn't hesitate to buy this - it is brilliant

Customer Review: Functional & Durable
Summary: 5 Stars

I've used one of these (or a very similar predecessor model) for 13+ years. It works great - produces a pretty consistent grind for a blade grinder. Just hold down the switch longer for a finer grind. I like near-expresso grind, which takes 45-60 seconds. Just tap on the lid, remove it, and dump the ground coffee into the filter. (If you don't tap the lid, you'll get more of a mess on the counter.)

When it dies, I'll probably replace it with a mill grinder, but 13 years of service for <$20 is a pretty good deal in my book.

The motor did freeze up once several years ago. I opened up the housing, tapped on the coils, blew off the dust, and closed it back up. Maybe just lucky, but it's worked flawlessly ever since.
