Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Krups 203-42 Electric Spice and Coffee Grinder with Stainless Steel Blades, BlackCustomer Review: Really does the job Summary: 5 Stars
This little tiger can turn coffee beans into powder if you wish. It only does about 1/2 cup of beans at a time, but has them reduced to fine granules in 10 to 20 seconds and a powder in not much longer. My only complaint is that some of the ground coffee sticks to the sides or bottom (about 1 teaspoon of it). Tapping the unit helps but still leaves some. I usually give it a quick wipe with a clean finger to free up the coffee that has stuck. I expect it has to do with moisture in the coffee beans. There's a stainless steel bowl in the bottom and plastic sides so I don't know what more could be done about this problem. Of course, it's not much of a problem and I would guess that most compact units like this, if not all of them, probably have the problem.
Customer Review: Works good but.. Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this thinking I could use it as a spice grinder and a coffee grinder but once I ground some pepper in it I quickly figured out that I cannot now use it for grinding coffee because no matter how many times I clean it, if I turn it over and shake it a little bit, more ground pepper comes out from...somewhere. It says take a damp cloth to clean do not submerge in water, so there's really no way to get all the ground pepper out of the tiny crevices that it seems to be hiding in. So while it works really really well for grinding spices and I even tired grinding a little coffee just to see how it worked and it works great, but I'm sure some of that ground pepper was also in there. I would suggest getting two of these, one for coffee and one for spices.
Customer Review: Only a shadow of it's former self Summary: 3 Stars
I was given a Krups model 203 in 1976. It worked perfectly, every single day... until I dropped it, two weeks ago. I'm getting it repaired now.
The replacement I bought, the 203-42, is not as good. The plastic is flimsier. The motor whines at a more irritating pitch, but is less powerful. The cord is shorter... inconveniently so. And the smell? Every time I use the grinder, the smell of burning rubber/plastic overwhelms the aroma of my dark roasted beans. I seriously fear a meltdown.
Let me say, the grinder does grinds the coffee beans. That IS the bottom line, isn't it? But it doesn't do it as easily, as pleasantly, or as conveniently as the original model for which I so patiently wait to return from the shop.
Customer Review: Quiet, smooth, fast. Best in it's class. Summary: 5 Stars
I have searched high and low for the right grinder.
I have a row of 6 coffee grinders in front of me (actually eight, but three are identical)
out of the six, the Krups "fast touch" is the cheapest, quietest, and fastest grinding. By far. It is so much smoother and quieter than the competition that I bought an extra identical pair for spices (white for sweet, black for savory!) and I am returning the other five brands (!) to the stores from whence they came.
I have only owned this a couple of weeks so I will have to report back on durability, but I put a batch of whole cinnamon sticks through to test it and so far so good. Finally I can grind coffee in the morning without waking my wife.
Customer Review: Great product ! Coffee is soooooooo much better ! Summary: 5 Stars
This is my first grinder(after tasting fabulous home ground coffee at a baby shower)and I can't believe I waited so long ! I've always bought the best coffees I could find, had them ground at the store and thought they were great. Now I'm in coffee heaven ! Such a difference ! The Krups grinder will grind plenty enough for over a full pot and is so quick and easy. I pour in my measured spoons of beans, push the button a few times and pour the ground coffee into the filter. I suppose a filter brush would get out every ground, but I just shake it a couple of times and push it to the back of my counter until the next morning. The aroma is great too. Good price with free shipping and no tax - don't wait on this purchase !
