Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Krups 203-42 Electric Coffee and Spice Grinder with Stainless-Steel blades, BlackCustomer Review: Thirteen years and counting Summary: 5 Stars
I received my black Krups grinder as a birthday present in 1990. I use it every day, and it is perfect. Over time, tiny chips have broken off the bottom rim of the cover. That's not a big deal though, especially as I only use it for coffee, not spices, and hence am presumably not ingesting the plastic chips. My mother has the same grinder, in white, and even older than mine, and her cover has never chipped that way, so it must be the result of a particular type of plastic they used at some point. The bottom line is: this coffee grinder performs just as well as it did the day I got it, and should I ever need to replace it, I would absolutely buy the same model again. I've gone through a number of coffee makers over these 13 years, but the grinder is still going strong.
Customer Review: Great Coffee Grinder Summary: 5 Stars
My first Krups coffee grinder was purchased in 1985 and was used daily until it finally died last month. I tried a couple of other grinders before purchasing my new Krups thinking that surely advances had been made in coffee grinders in the last 25 years. Boy, was I wrong--one grinder spewed ground coffee all over WHILE it was grinding, and the other grinder had a cover so tight and badly designed that I had a really hard time removing it to get at the ground coffee. Lesson learned, and I ordered another Krups (identical to the first one I had except for the color), and I am a happy coffee grinder/maker/drinker once again.Krups 203-42 Fast Touch Coffee Grinder, Black
Customer Review: Indestructible Coffee Grinder -- Can Survive a Nuclear War Summary: 4 Stars
This is my first review for a kitchen product, but my trusty Krups Coffee Grinder deserves two thumbs up. I have used it to grind coffee to perfection: I have both drip and press coffee makers and I can use this to make different sized grounds for each. It also works well to grind nuts and to turn toast into breadcrumbs -- I have used it for both purposes. It is extremely easy to use.
The only downsides to this grinder (which is why it loses a star) are (1) the base cannot be put in water, it needs to be wiped out; and (2) it lacks some of the "bells and whistles" of newer models. Nonetheless, I have owned my grinder for about 15 years and have been pleased with it since the day I bought it. It is nearly indestructible and will probably outlive me.
Customer Review: The Steadfast Appliance Summary: 5 Stars
I don't know how this reflects on the product today, but I bought this very model in 1982 and have used it at least once a day, often more than that, every day for more than 26 years. I haven't replaced a single part. Have you ever had an electrical appliance last like that? I haven't. It was the best grinder for the money then and apparently it still is.
I am a certified coffee snob and I only make small batches of fresh ground coffee so the capacity has not been a problem, although if I had a 12 cup coffeemaker I'd have to do two batches of beans. And it can't grind all the way down to espresso grind like a burr grinder could, although for many home espresso machines it is more than adequate. I wish all good things lasted like this machine!
Customer Review: Krups coffee grinder nonpareil Summary: 5 Stars
This is my second Krups coffee grinder, and I bought the second one because I thought the first one was losing the quick and sharp chopper upper agility of a world class machine. But guess what: The second one is no better than the first. Everything remains the same, so I'm working on becoming ambidextrous so I can grind twice as many beans... no, that's not true, except it is the same, a really fine machine. I fill up the well and get enough grounds for a couple of days, which is all you really want to have unless you like your grounds stale. I might point out that my coffee maker is Krups and so is my personal size espresso machine. I'll probably give one of the coffee grinders to someone in the family and get them spoiled on the superior attributes.
