Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Krups 203-42 Electric Coffee and Spice Grinder with Stainless-Steel blades, Black

Customer Review: Owned this model for more than 15 years
Summary: 4 Stars

Got this model grinder (or at least a Krups that looks exactly like this - I admit, I don't know the model number) for a gift when I moved out of my parent's home after college. I have been grinding 8-10 cups worth of beans every day ever since. I'm 37 now - and while the grinder doesn't look very pretty after grinding thousands of pots of coffee, it's still running well.

My only complaint is that the coffee tends to clump in the edges of the metal bowl below the blade if you grind it very fine - sometimes as much as a cups worth of grinds - and you need to scrap it out. To solve this, I shake the coffee maker while I'm grinding, turn it upside down while it's still spinning, and smack the side. This works well. If I didn't have to do this, I'd give it 5 Stars.

However, this speaks to the durability of the model - I've been using this process most of the years I've owned this. I'm going to buy another one for my office.

Customer Review: A good grinder for the money
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased this grinder as a travel accessory, and it will do me quite well. I was quite impressed with the quality that went into this grinder at an extremely inexpensive price. It does what I need it to do quickly and effortlessly with very little cleanup. I do, howver, recommend a small brush for sweeping away coffee grounds that accumulate under the blade.

Though this is a good grinder, I only recommend it for the casual coffee drinker. There are no variable settings for courser or finer grounds, so this unit ends up providing somewhat of a happy medium. The grounds are just fine enough so that they don't quite work ideally with a French Press, but they are ideally suited for a paper filter drip coffee maker.

If I wasn't so particular about how I like my morning coffee, this would definitely be my every day grinder. On the road, this grinder is one of my essential carry-alongs that I simply cannot do without.

Customer Review: Review: Krups 203-42 Coffee Grinder
Summary: 4 Stars

Purchased this unit to replace an older, worn-out unit of same make and model.
Use: Daily for grinding whole coffee beans; occasionally for grinding nuts, spices, etc.
Pros: Unit is simple to use and takes up little counter space. Appearance is clean and easy on the eyes. Recommend black as it doesn't look dirty after grinding coffee. Reliable. Not expensive.
Cons: If you require a thoroughly consistent grain size in your ground coffee, seek another more expensive device. Difficult to clean after using it for grinding nuts or spices. Loud enough to stop conversation throughout the room. Unit gave off "burning electrical insulation" smell when used during the first week, so I watched it carefully and prepared to return it as defective. Then the unit quit putting out that smell and has been performing well since.
Summary: I would recommend this unit to a friend.

Customer Review: Excellent Coffee Grinder, But Buy Another For Spices
Summary: 5 Stars

We owned, and used almost daily, for twenty-two years, our original Krups Fast Touch.
Let me repeat that: 22 years.

I bought it when I got married; used in in kitchens from Germany to Louisiana, back and forth across the Atlantic (using a transformer while in Europe); and never experienced a moment's bit of problem. Alas, it died about three months ago, and we began using the Kitchen Aid grinder that I purchased for grinding spices.

Last weekend, my husband, after a bit of whinging about the Kitchen Aid, finally demanded a new Krups for his morning-saving java (I'm a tea drinker, so didn't experience that particular crisis).

While the Kitchen Aid is okay for spices because it's dish-washable, the Krups wins, hands down, for coffee.
Hopefully, I'll take the next Krups with me on any future relocations and use it well into my dotage. :-)

Customer Review: A great classic!
Summary: 5 Stars

I grew up with my parents grinding their coffee with the earlier model of this grinder. I was very happy when my dad gave it to me when I moved out. After 20+ years of use it finally died. The last two years it did its job even with a crack running down the casing (dropped too many times over the years). Other than an increase in watts & a color change to black, this grinder is the same exact one that I grew up with. It grinds nice & even every time in a matter of seconds. The increase in power makes me wonder whether this one will last as long as my previous one, but even if it only lasts half the time it will still have been well worth it. I hope they never change or stop selling this classic.

Cons: 1) It's loud, but you only have to listen for a couple seconds. 2) It grinds pretty fine. For me this isn't a problem, but some people may not like that.
