Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Krups 203-42 Electric Coffee and Spice Grinder with Stainless-Steel blades, BlackCustomer Review: great grinder Summary: 5 Stars
Bought this to replace the Bosch that the ex got. I loved my Bosch SO much. My Bosch lasted forever and was still kicking and worked great. I could not find another one so I got this.
So far, my ex he or she can keep it...ha. This unit has ample power and more grinding room. Seemingly same or more power. I quit coffee as well as her/him, therefor my machine is only grinding herbs and eggshells. He or she got the good Boden Stainless steal french press as well as just a FEW other things! Alas, good riddance! I like that I can turn it upside down and clean out its chamber into the cup/lid. Smart design. Both lid and base are designed to pour as well.
A previous reviewer stated that it was hard to clean and that they were worried about rancid oils left in the thing. I just wipe it well with a dish towel or paper towel and that works for me. If I ever had a big problem with residue I would wipe with a little alcohol and then wipe with damp cloth. Even though I am doing eggshells I am not that worried about it, but I will heed your precaution and clean my unit thusly from time to time. Thanks.
Customer Review: Krups Coffee 'Grinder' well worth the price Summary: 4 Stars
When my Mr. Coffee Grinder self destructed I cast around for a replacement. The Krups unit percolated towards the top of the reviews online and Amazon had it for a good price so I bought one.
1. It is quieter than the Mr. Coffee unit that I had. My several cats don't 'head for the hills' whenever I grind coffee anymore!
2. It doesn't have the automatic timer but it is easy to just count to 10 for a single cup (or whatever level of 'grind' you wish).
3. It is easy to clean out, especially if you get the brush designed for this task, though I just use my finger after unplugging the unit. Unplugging is probably not necessary since the 'switch' is part of the top of the unit, but I am just cautious about putting my finger in anything that can chop up coffee beans thoroughly!
All in all, it's a good buy for those of us who aren't willing to spend the big bucks for a 'real' coffee grinder.
Krups 203-42 Fast Touch Coffee Grinder, Black
Customer Review: Acceptable but not as good as it's predecessor Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this model of krups grinder to replace a 20 year old unit of the same type (the old one still works but the blades are too dull now to produce a very fine grind)
These new units are not nearly as good as the old ones, even though mine works fine overall. The new one is noisier, i want to say slower spinning and takes longer to produce the same grind as the old one did.
The basic design is still good: the oval shape allows grouds to swirl down close to the blade as they reach the far end of their elliptical spin. I just have to hold the button longer to get an espresso grind, which this unit can still produce.
Spices: being mostly seeds, they often contain high oil content so they will likely stain your grinder. i've kept my old one for spices but found that i still prefer my mortar-and-pestle grinder for that purpose... i like the slow release of aroma as i grind.... call me old fashioned :)
I would have given my old unit 5 stars (quiet, effective and efficient). I give this unit 4 stars: effective but noisy and less efficient.
Customer Review: The perfect grinder Summary: 5 Stars
There isn't anything particularly special about this grinder...it's just built well, does a great job and has a great price. I use this grinder for flax seeds and it only takes a few seconds to get a very fine grind - in fact, for coffee you may want to be careful you don't get too fine of a grind, depending on what type of brewing you are doing.
I'd been using a few other products that are meant to be used for multiple purposes and included a grinding blade, but I had a hard time getting the fine grind I wanted and it was futzy changing around all the parts. I make a protein shake for my boyfriend and I every day after we go to the gym, and I don't want to be putting gritty chunks of flax in it, but I do want to get the fiber and omega 3 in there.
It was really worth it to make the minimal investment and give up that small amount of kitchen space for a grinder that really works and only takes a few seconds. I'm planning to get another one for coffee and maybe another one for spices...perhaps it seems a little excessive but it's just such a great little grinder.
Customer Review: Krups 203-42 Coffee Grinder Summary: 2 Stars
The Krups 203-42 Coffee Grinder is an adequate performer for the price, but if you want a good grinder, you're going to have to spend more. Let's just say that it's the sort of thing you'd expect to find at Home Depot or Wal-Mart, not Williams-Sonoma. I bought it because it was favorably rated for the low price, because my Braun Type 4041 is more than 10 years old, and because I grind coffee only every two weeks or so. The Krups performs no better than the old Braun, with its worn blades (I guess not as badly worn as I thought). We'll see how long the Krups lasts. It takes the Krups 15 seconds to achieve the degree of fineness that the Braun used to achieve in 8, now accomplishes in 15. The extra grinding time no doubt means that the Krups blades will wear out more quickly. Krups saves itself money by providing only a 28" cord, compared with the Braun's 45" cord, which could be an important difference in convenience. The Braun provides a cord-storage facility; the Krups doesn't. Just one more proof that you get what you pay for.
