Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Kness Mfg 102-0-019 Snap-E Mouse TrapCustomer Review: Build a better mouse trap, hey they did and it's cheap! Summary: 5 Stars
I had this very mousetrap in Logansport, IN for six years in a house rental and it served me well. I was renting an old stone house by a wooded area with a field next door. Not to mention, I'm lazy when it comes to mowing the lawn, so it often became a field mouse paradise especially late in the year. I typically stop mowing in September waiting for winter. That means the mice are gonna come my way to get out of the cold and go crumb hunting or carpet chewing in my house!
I could hear the little sneaks in the evening when in bed. Knawing on the carpet edges, or some box they chewed into of my food. I wanted them out. I noticed down in the half basement they liked the smell of salt near the top of the water softener. I could tell by the dropings. I bought one of these mouse traps, and baited it with Andes mint chocolate. Mice appear to love the stuff. I jamed it into the little hole and set the trap near the salt smell. It wasn't a half hour later I got one, and scored three on the day!
Over the next few years every time it got cold the mice would sneak in the house and I'd clean them out with the trap. It usually managed to get them all, one year I got over 30. A huge accomplishment for one little trap, at the time I've never bought a second. The beauty of the thing is that it's easy to set using the second bar, and easy to release the dead critter. A hungry cat lived nearby, so I would fling them over the fence by pulling on the second, no-touch mouse bar, and kitty would finish them off.
I moved into a "new" (new to me anyway, built in 1955) house a little over a year ago in Fort Wayne, IN. I noticed the past owner left out mouse poisons in several areas. I couldn't have them around because my little dog Sandy would probably eat them if he found any. I searched the web for this type of mouse trap, and lucky found the same one I used nearly 15 years ago in Logansport. I bought two for me this time, and two for a friend, and it took only one day to clear out all five mice in my house. My friend said his apartment was clean in just a few days. I still baited with chocolate, he used cheese, but I think mice prefer the Andes mint chocolate bars better!
Customer Review: Mouse Trap: $1.98 Milk: $2.79 Coming home from a milk run to find that thieving rodent dead as a doornail: Priceless. Summary: 5 Stars
I am not exaggerating with the title of this review. The trap came in the mail today, I set it up in the kitchen after dinner, went out for milk, and came back to find my furry nemesis finally dead.
I was sick and tired of finding mouse droppings on my kitchen counter. The only mouse traps I had in the house were the old-timey ones and some plastic newer ones. The old school design made me nervous to set it up and sometimes mice can easily snatch food off of those without triggering the trap. The latter also happened for the plastic ones.
After a quick search on google, I found a youtube video. It showed the old school trap being tried first: the mouse came out of hiding at about 4:20 a.m., and the mouse nibbled on the bait and escaped unscathed. Then the video showed the Snap-E Mouse trap: out came the mouse, it stepped on the paddle, and SNAP, it was all over. Impressed, I looked it up on amazon and ordered it immediately.
The trap is very easy to set up and to disengage. Simply pull back the snap until it locks. To disengage, FIRST hold onto the metal part of the trap with your thumb FIRMLY, then press the paddle, and ease the trap shut.
The best part of the trap is in how it holds the bait. There is a little round bait well that you see in the center of the target area. Unlike other traps, it is not attached to the pressure paddle, it's attached to the base instead. When you engage the trap, the pressure paddle comes UP AROUND the bait well, thus leaving the mouse no choice but to step on the paddle to reach the bait! So long as you have the bait sticking out far enough to get the mouse's attention, but deep enough where it has no choice but to step on the pressure paddle, SNAP! Down comes the trap and the little intruder is dead. When you have caught a mouse, it's very easy to grab the trap from one end and squeeze it to let the mouse out. When you're done, wash it off, and it's ready for another go!
This is a cheap, easy-to-use, cleverly designed product. Set it up correctly in the place where the mice steal food and leave little "presents", and you're good to go.
Customer Review: Amazing! Summary: 5 Stars
I live in a 200-year-old refurbished historic building that had been abandoned for decades. When the developers converted it into modern housing, they slapped up some interior plywood without much fanfare. Accordingly, I have seen more mice in my yearlong tenure here than many people see in a lifetime. And by see, I mean they just hang out like they're the ones paying rent. They are relentless and their survival instincts are sharp, honed by prior generations' succumbing to extermination tactics that are now rendered ineffective.
For a while I felt bad about killing them, so I used glue pads to catch them. Then I'd take them outside with a Q-tip and baby oil to pry them free and set them loose. That got old fast. I grew to resent their scratching in the walls at night, their casual strolls in tandem across the kitchen. So I moved to poison. To the sound-emission devices. To the other snapping traps. Nothing worked. I couldn't get rid of them to save my life, despite spending what felt like my life savings on traps. They were smart! They could get take cheese out of a trap without triggering the bar! (Meanwhile I'd snap my thumb just setting the thing). Things felt hopeless.
Then, I bought three of these Snap-E Mouse Traps and placed them strategically. Within hours, BOOM. Three mice caught. I refilled, replaced. BOOM. Three more. The mouse genocide continued. It was amazing. After about a week, I noticed that I wasn't hearing or seeing the mice anymore. The traps remained empty. I had gotten them all, or at least scared them out of my particular apartment. It was the best feeling I've ever had, and I have this product to thank. The traps are reusable and sturdy, which means they're a pretty solid bargain. They are sensitive to their targets, so you won't deal with losing all of your bait. And furthermore, they are strong. I once found two dead mice in a single trap!
If you're suffering from a mouse problem and have tried other options, try this one next. It will be your last stop on the road to freedom from pests.
Customer Review: Desert House, Hoarder, Empty 3 1/2 Years with Rodent Problem Summary: 5 Stars
We bought a home in the desert in California. It's located in a very remote region. The house was vacant for 3 1/2 years. The man that lived there was a Hoarder (pack rat). Vandals made it worse by ransacking the home several times. It's the worst I've ever seen, and I am a Realtor with 30+ years experience.
There weren't a bunch of open food packages, but there was spilled food, probably from the vandals.
Anyway, there were a LOT of mice, and some Rat droppings.
Having read up on what to do about the infestations, I knew I needed traps.
We have cleaned up a couple of rooms to the point that we can spend the occasional night there.
So, about the review....
I bought 4 of the mouse traps, and 3 of the similar rat traps. I set them in the places where we had seen droppings.
We have 3 Golden Retrievers that were staying there with us.
The first night, we never heard a snap, but our dogs did, and they were scared.
We caught 3 mice that night, all in the same room.
These traps work very well, I haven't had one fail with a "mistrap".
I did notice that they are not all exactly the same. Some you have to hold up the little trigger plate to get the trap to set. Other than that, they worked perfectly.
Releasing the dead mice was very simple on two of three, just pull back the wire with a separate handle that didn't touch the mouse. The third mouse was killed when it hit the little guy in the gut. He got stuck on the wire, but a quick flip with a paper towel took care of it.
I hate killing anything, and mice are very cute, but after reading, and studying about them and the diseases they carry, there really was no other choice. Trapping is not practical.
So, I give them an easy 5 stars. They are inexpensive, and work well.
Customer Review: Thank Goodness Summary: 5 Stars
I have had this little mouse living under my sink. I had put out two different kinds of traps, a dcon circular trap that was suppose to catch them inside, and the victor snap traps. The dcon traps were pretty much useless, and the victor snap traps are so poorly made, the pieces come loose, making the snap bar unstable, becoming useless also. The snap traps I got to stay set were ignored by the mouse also. I finally broke down and got the glue traps. Using a bunch of them, I thought I had isolated the mouse in such a way, to force it to go over the glue traps. It found another way out, not going anywhere near the glue traps. I had in the mean time ordered the Snap E trap. It came today, I put a little bit of peanut butter (Skippy!) in the hole, far enough down that the mouse would have to climb up to investigate. The trap sat under my sink all afternoon untouched. I was going in and out of the cupboard to retrieve things, which probably kept the mouse in hiding. But fifteen minute ago, SNAP! And hallelujah! The little guy was caught. He died pretty quickly, which is good. He was really cute I must say, but I just CANNOT HAVE A LITTLE RODENT RUNNING LOOSE IN MY HOUSE! My husband disposed of the body, and we quickly reset the trap (with the same bait, untouched) just in case he had a friend.
I have to say it is all my fault he came in at all. I had put a piece of old furniture outside up against the house, which made a perfect walkway up into a utility door. Proof positive that is the path he used. So the house is now foam insulated really well, especially around the pipes where the little bugger came in. The furniture is moved and the house is on rodent lock down. (What a relief, I was having mousey nightmares).
What a great trap. Thank you, thank you.
