kettle itself operates like a tea kettle should. it is decent size, has a stay cool handle, and is not too heavy. it is not as stylish as some others on the market, but it is indeed functional and conventional. the "pear" color reminds me personally of pea soup. i actually exchanged it for the blue [which is really dark and almost black, but more palatable then its predecessor]. good luck!
