Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid Silicone Spatula Scraper, RedCustomer Review: Silicone is an improvement, but.... Summary: 2 Stars
I received a set of these with my new KitchenAid mixer (which I love), but I don't really care for them. The scraper head has a stiff, plasticky feel, which makes it harder to scrape out a jar. It also doesn't clean well in the dishwasher -- I don't think it is 100% silicone. The big handles remind me of a car's hood ornament. They take up too much space in the drawer, and the slight increase in comfort doesn't outweigh their other flaws. I just put my set in the pile for our local recycling center's swap shop. I much prefer the Chef'n double ended spatulas, which are all silicone with an internal metal handle, come in great colors, clean well in the dishwasher, and take up far less drawer space.
Description of KitchenAid Silicone Spatula Scraper, RedWith a nice long handle and an angled flexible head you won't have any difficulties getting every last bit of batter from the bowl. Easy to clean, comfy to use, heat-resistant, and coordinated to match your red KitchenAid standmixer, now this is one heck of a spatula! Here's one spatula you won't find melted up against the side of the stove. Heat resistant to 500 degrees F, it's crafted from a sturdy silicone that won't scrape or scratch nonstick cooking surfaces. The 7-1/2-inch handle allows better reach, and the 3-1/2-inch head is angled and flexible to help you extract every last drop of cake batter from the bowl. (Whatever you do, don't tell the kids you'll be using it; they might go on strike.) The KitchenAid logo even doubles as a spatula rest, so you can place the spatula up against the rim of a bowl without it sliding into the goo. --Mary Park
