Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid Sheartoku Kitchen ShearsCustomer Review: Coolest Kitchen Scissors Ever! Summary: 5 Stars
I saw these kitchen shears and since the price was great ($6) and I go through scissors in the kitchen like crazy, I ordered a pair. They are amazing!
They cut easily and cleanly. The handles are ergonomically designed and extremely comfortable. But the most unique feature is that they come apart. I love this!
Since I use kitchen shears for almost everything, including cutting cooked pizza, being able to take them apart for cleaning is wonderful and a real timesaver. But the best feature is that it's easy to take them apart and use a knife steel on the edge every time I use them to keep them sharp. If I do manage to nick the blades, I can easily sharpen them with the blades taken apart.
You can also use the Santoku side as a knife. As another reviewer noted, only one edge is sharp and the blade is pretty thick so it's not a great knife. But it will chop salad greens, cut butter, cut a sandwich in half, etc.
All in all, I think these are very sturdy kitchen shears at very attractive price. The unique features make this an easy choice if you need new shears.
Description of KitchenAid Sheartoku Kitchen ShearsKitchenAid Sheartoku. This unique kitchen tool is a combination Santoku Knife and Kitchen Shear. For a gift that's truly unique, wrap up the Sheartoku from KitchenAid. The gadget is a combination kitchen shears and santoku-the Asian-style knife that features hollows along the blade for quick release, and thus thin slices, of vegetables, meat, or seafood. Use the Sheartoku like a pair of scissors to cut easily through leafy greens such as parsley, lettuce, and chard, as well as through chicken breasts and steak to make strips for fajitas. Or, separate the blades and use the 5-inch santoku knife on its own to chop or slice vegetables and meat for stir-fry. Constructed of sharp, heavy-duty stainless steel, the blades are connected to an offset handle that facilitates cutting on a flat surface in the shears position. After use, the Sheartoku should be washed by hand. --Ann Bieri
