Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid RVSA Slicer/Shredder Attachment for Stand MixersCustomer Review: Dont' waste your money Summary: 1 Stars
This is the poorest excuse for a slicer/grater I have ever seen! It simply destroys things like potatoes and carrots. The cones are absolutely not sharp. I did get an e-mail reply from Kitchenaid which suggested that I return them to the place where I purchased them - fat chance when I got them in a set! They obviously know there is nothing they can do to make this attachment work - which is what I asked about - I thought maybe there was something I was doing wrong. I must say the food grinder works swell and so does the strainer attachment so I don't feel completely ripped off. Sorry to say I didn't read the reviews here first!!
Customer Review: Awesome Attachment Summary: 5 Stars
This attachment is excellent and I would recommend it to everyone with a mixer. I buy huge blocks of cheese every month, cut them up, send them through the grater (which does a beautiful job) and store the grated stuff in Tupperware for use on everything. I have used so many "food processors" to grate and they are such a disaster. Granted, grating things is a messy job, so you'll never get away without some clean up, but this attachment is so easy to clean--I love it, I can't say enough good things about it. The only drawback is the edges of the "blade buckets" tend to rust if you don't dry them soon after use.
Customer Review: Slicing/dicing/grating Woes Summary: 3 Stars
For decades, I used a hand model with the same type of slicing and grating cups, but when the cups finally rusted, replaced it with a food processor. When my processor bowl cracked (It can't be replaced according to the manufacturer--planned obsolescence!), after much research, I decided to go this route.
The device is quick and easy to install, although I have to use a pair of pliers to separate the shaft from the cups. The grating cup became seriously discolored the first time it was run through the dishwasher, but still works fine.
It will not chop, so I had to buy an old-fashioned hand chopper.
Customer Review: great idea, poor quality Summary: 1 Stars
I received the KitchenAid RVSA Slicer/Shredder Attachment for Stand Mixers as a retirement gift and used it for the first time yesterday. Although the idea of it is great, the quality of construction is very poor. The cones themselves have blades that are not sharp enough, and the removable shaft metal finish flaked off into the food!!!! UNACCEPTABLE. As a result, I ended up tossing out tainted zucchini and hand grated it instead. A food processor would do a better job for sure. Also, the shaft is impossible to remove without pliers unless you leave the attachment in the machine before removing the shaft. TERRIBLE PRODUCT.
Customer Review: on Removing cones Summary: 5 Stars
I've seen a number of complaints about removing the cones on this attachment. It has been a while since I've used any older versions of this accessory but I recently purchased one locally. If one looks at the 12 o'clock part of the face of the plastic hopper/housing there is a square hole just the right size to insert the shaft then twist a cone on or off. It is explained very well in the kitchenaid website product guide.

I have only used it to shred cheeses but was reading these reviews for some new Kitchenaid ideas.
