Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid Pasta Scoop Colander, BlackCustomer Review: So many uses -- love it Summary: 5 Stars
This nicely made colander works for so many different tasks. I use it at least every other day, and it stores handily in my utensil caddy. It is big enough for me to fit in my 6 quart pans, but I use it as a handheld colander rather than a scoop. I reach for it when I am boiling just one or two servings in a small saucepan (for my kids, for example) -- hold the colander with one hand over the sink and the pan with the other, drain, return pasta to pan ready to dress. Very useful when the sink is not empty. I use it to rinse canned beans; I used to use a large sieve for this, but this is much better because there's no mesh for the any loose bean skins to get caught in. I use it to wash dry lentils and suchlike before cooking them -- again, I used to use a sieve but this is better because instead of flowing right through, the water has a chance to pool around the lentils a bit before going through. And after each quick use, it goes straight in the dishwasher. Well balanced, light enough for easy handling, still looks new after 4 years of regular use. Love it.
Description of KitchenAid Pasta Scoop Colander, BlackForget all that juggling with colanders and a stockpot full of boiling hot water and noodles. Use this scoop to gather your pasta without having to upend the pot. Also handy for retrieving fritters, wontons and so on from oil or broth. Sturdy and stylish, this tool consists of a colander on a handle, forming a scoop that quickly drains pasta, vegetables, and shrimp right from the pot. The colander measures 7 inches wide and 8 inches long, ample for serving a generous portion of pasta with a single scoop, and is squared off at one end so it can scrape the bottom of a pot. Made of polished, 18/8 stainless steel, the colander scoop has a beautiful enamel-like handle with a hanging hole on the end. It's dishwasher-safe and measures 16 inches long overall. KitchenAid says the first year of the colander scoop's lifetime warranty against defects is hassle-free, with a replacement shipped at no cost and without question if a defect is detected. --Fred Brack
