Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid KSM150PSWH Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, White

Customer Review: Absolutely amazing!
Summary: 5 Stars

I know with all the other reviews for this mixer, you won't need mine to decide weither or not to buy one for yourself, but, still, I was a little hesitant myself.

First, price aside, knowing now about this mixer, price is no longer an issue, it's worth whatever you pay for it.

I finally got one, and justified it as, "Well, this is a Christmas present... to myself," but again, this mixer doesn't need justification, it's just absolutely amazing.

I used it for the first time, the other night, to mix my cheeses for lasagna. This step usually included me with a large bowl, a large spoon, and my arthritis hurting after the first 10 minutes. Especially when I have to do things like add salt, or basil, garlic or other seasonings, and have to make sure it's completely moxed again, before I can taist it, and continue this step over and over, usually taking about 20 minutes to make sure it's all mixed with the seasonings, and I'm pleased.

Anyway, I put all the cheses and standard seasonings into the mixing bowl, put the head down, and turned it on. I have to admit, I was a little scared that the bowl wasn't big enough, but trust me, it is. It's bigger than it seems in the pictures, and even at home, it's bigger than it looks, until you fill it up with stuff, then you realize how much it holds. Well, back to the mixing, I put the head down, turned it on 3, and within the first 5 seconds, the cheeses were blended, the eeggs were already mixed in, along with the basil, garlic, salt and pepper on top. This thing did just as much in five seconds, as it normally takes me 5 minutes in a bowl.

I won't bore everyone with more detail, but I will say, that I've been cooking for nearly 20 years now, so I know my way around a kitchen, and my only regret is not buying this mixer sooner.

I'm a perfectionist, especially when i comes to cooking, and this mixer allows me to be a perfectionist, quicker, faster, and actually, better.

I just can't tell you enough, how much you need this in your kitchen. If you think that your hand mixer does the same job, or is good enough, then don't bother buying this, because you won't appreciate things like the ability to have both hands free, or you won't notice things like if your cake is silky smooth, or notice things like, if the seasonings are incorporated into every bit of the recipe, instead of just on the food that your hand mixer will reach, and you probably think it's common for some bites to taist better than others, or some bites to be more overpowering than others, and you won't appreciate this. However, if you truly want to be a better cook, and have your food turn out better, you will buy this.

Well, I hate to make this review even longer, but after using my mother's mixer that she got for Christmas, I figured I'd throw in one more advantage of this mixer... it's ease of use for those with arthritis. I was noticing on hers, that you had to push down a button with strength, to release the attachments, while this you just push up, and turn. Another great advantage is, with hers, you had to push in a button on the side, with force, and lift up, while it pinched your finger since it was placed where the hinge is, while this one, you just push back the lever, and lift up. These small details that they include, truly do set this apart from any other.

Customer Review: Buyer beware!
Summary: 1 Stars

So, after all, in spite of some misgivings, I decided to take a chance on the Kitchenaid Artisan 5-Quart Mixer--final response to my husband's weekly inquiry as to what I wanted for Christmas this year. Observing my hours, days even, researching consumer reviews of Kitchenaid mixers, he finally queried: "Why are you studying them so? What could be wrong? Those things star in Food channel kitchens!" I shared his impressions, but I had encountered a number of disturbingly negative reviews amidst the glowing ones--multiple dour estimations of Kitchenaid mixers that appeared earnest, detailed, rational. And I've never been lucky. Finally, I decided on the Artisan. I bake only occasionally, so it would suffice. We ordered. It arrived in three days. Too excited to wait, I unboxed my smashing new mixer two days before Christmas and prepared to bake. Alas, dear reader! My beautiful, new Artisan in metallic chrome was as defective as the worst reviews suggested it might be. And I must comment to the reviewer out there who chided disappointed purchasers for not reading and/or not properly following instructions and thereby creating the malfunctions they all observed: There are Kitchen-lemon-aids! I have a PhD in English, and I thoroughly read the instructions and carefully followed them. Although I wasn't certain anything was amiss when I poured my first white cake mix into the pans, the batter appeared a bit shady. I thought it might be a trick of my kitchen lighting. My white icing called for butter and seven cups of confectioners' sugar to be whipped on low, then medium. By the time I added cup six, the mixer--set on low--immediately protested. It groaned and banged out a dance on my countertop. I added a sip of milk and vanilla sooner than the recipe directed, and that seemed to mollify the thing, but just as soon as I added that last cup of sugar, it threw another tantrum, so (prematurely) I threw in all the milk and vanilla and allowed it to beat on for a bit. By now I was more than a little disheartened, but had not yet lost all hope that all would be well. Then, while spreading the icing on my mildly suspect cake rounds, I saw that it was marbleized; there were muted but visible streaks of gray throughout the fluff. Immediately, reviewer complaints of oil leaks from brand new mixers, of the mixer's inability to handle stiff mixtures and doughs tsk-tsked at me. A chorus of 'We-told-you-so's' sounded in my head. An hour later, I had the Artisan 5-Quart Mixer in Metallic Chrome back in its styrofoam housing, back in its battered packing box, all taped up. Surely, one shouldn't have to be an engineer or an English professor to operate a commonplace kitchen appliance in the 21st century. It's Christmas evening as I write this, and rather than sitting shiny and impressive in the space I had created for it on my countertop, Santa's primary gift to me this year is waiting by my back door for the UPS store to open on December 27 so that it can begin a swift journey back to its manufacturer. I made from scratch two beautiful cakes and two batches of chocolate chip cookies using my old hand mixer and a good right arm. Kitchenaid buyer, beware!

Customer Review: KitchenAid Delivers and Amazon exceeded my expectations
Summary: 5 Stars

This mixer truly does live up to it's reputation. It is well made and works like a dream. I loved the clover leaf roll recipe in the included recipe book...

As for the color, the options are there if you want to pay more, but if plain old white is good enough for Paula Deen, Giada Delaurentis and Ina Garten, then I'd say I'm in good company because white will never go out of style...it's a classic mixer color and this mixer is so well made it will probably outlast the many kitchen decorating fads bound to change in the years to come.

I have wanted one of these mixers for several years, but couldn't justify the purchase until my tired old Sunbeam broke. I can tell you that the quality and workmanship is there and I am thrilled with this powerful, sturdy mixer. For home use, I don't think you could ask for anything more. I was considering a larger one that I saw at a warehouse retailer for $60.00 more, but it was so tall that it wouldn't fit on the counter under my cabinets. After using this workhorse of a mixer, I'm convinced that it is absolutely the perfect size for my needs... I don't know if I would ever want a larger mixer because this thing has confidently handled large batches of everything that I wanted to make for my large family without skipping a beat and without hogging tons of counter space.

As for Amazon, their service was exemplary. I opted for their free Super Saver shipping and still had my new mixer within 2 days of placing my order. I can really get behind a company that under-promises and over- delivers. I haven't seen a deal like Amazon offers on this model anywhere and I have looked for a long time. The nearest thing would be a refurbished model and it was still more expensive and that was before the rebate!! I don't know how they can offer this deal, but I'm thankful that they did. In any case, although it sounds too good to be true, this definitely is the real thing. If you are looking for a KitchenAid, snap this one up before they come to their senses and raise the price!!!

Customer Review: Even my persnickety mother loves her new KitchenAid Artisan
Summary: 5 Stars

My sister asked me to go halves with her to buy our mother this mixer. Mom makes lots of homemade candy as Christmas gifts and she has always used a Mixmaster. They are good mixers, but we decided to get a mixer with a more powerful motor as Mom eventually burns hers up, so we chose the KitchenAid. Keep checking Amazon.com for a sale price on the common colors. They were on sale on Sunday, then back up to the full price Mon. through Sat., then on sale again the next Sunday. I waited for the sale when the price of the Artisan was marked down $52, it had a rebate, and a free 3-quart bowl offer, AND free shipping. The fact that it has a 325-watt motor was the real selling point. Now Mom is hard to please, and I was holding my breath until it arrived, thinking she would not like the fact it has a single beater. I thought she would reject it because she has always used two-beater mixers. Not so. She is thrilled with this mixer. The dual-action wide metal beater is 100% effective for mixing along the sides and the bottom of the bowl. The whisk is just what she needs for beating egg whites for her candy. The motor is very powerful and I doubt she will ever use speeds 9 or 10. The bowls lock into place and she won't hesitate to leave the mixer running while doing other kitchen duties. It's so heavy it won't vibrate off the countertop. The reviewer from CT must have written his review on the wrong page. This Artisan mixer has the tilt-back head, another of Mom's must-haves. It is the KitchenAid Professional mixer which has the stationary head and the bowl that moves up and down. I don't think we will hear a single complaint from my mother, my sister and I are thrilled with the sale price, rebate, free bowl, and free shipping, and I just can't wait until they go on sale again to order one for myself. I want a red one.

Customer Review: Great Product, Spendy, so try to find it on SALE! It is avai
Summary: 4 Stars

It is available cheaper as "Reconditioned" in some stores.

Just find it on sale on a holiday and you can save about $50!
After Christmas sales have it marked down from $299 to $230!!!

Hi.
I have always like the "look" of theese mixers, but couldn't bring myself to spending the money for a mixer. I mean, I had a handheld one that worked fine for $10.00 from Target!
Well, my husband got it for me this year for Christmas, and I now agree with everything Ive heard.
I mix more stuff than I thought!
The main beauty of it I didn't realise is that it gives you
TWO MORE HANDS!!!!
It continually mixes, (all around the bowl) while you go get eggs from the fridgs, grab the baby, whatever you normally would have to turn the blender/mixer off to go do.
You know those recapies that say, mix well for 5 minutes? Who really does that? I never mix enough, and my pancakes have a bit of flour in them, my cookins uneven dough to chips ratio, whatever. You get my point, it could mix all day if you like.
I really love the attachments IT COMES with that has a splatter shield with a little slide to pour the ingredients down. It is great, and it really does mix thouroughlly!
I am very pleased, and it is strong! I make cabbage soup (yes the diet) and I was able to leave itmixing on low while I added all the ingredients, it didn't get stuck or clogged up once!
Really helpful to us moms that need our other two hands to do everything else! (ha ha)
Good luck, and the only difference I think I would change is I would have gotten white, because I know my kitchen won't be red forever, but I hear everyone uses theese things for MANY years!

Thanks!
