I bought this device thinking I'd get years of use and enjoyment out of it. I thought it would improve my quality of life immensely. I thought I'd be the coolest on the block. But after only a year of use, a new model came out that was obviously much cooler, had better features, was smaller and was what everyone was talking about. My old model was passe and still owning it made me feel like a loser. So I had to buy the new one. I felt better for a little while, but you know what? The same thing happened again, and again! They just keep on putting out better ones and they create desire for something that no one really needs. Its a viscous cycle I tell you. You can't win!

In my retirement I design foods for a small company I started. I use my KitchenAid Artisan Mixer nearly everyday and I think it's a great addition to my kitchen. I also like to bake for my wife, daughter and church so my mixer is getting quite a work out. It appears to be rugged and well made but, I'm careful not to go to fast under heavy loads like bread or heavy cookie batters. (I did read the instructions) I also have the food grinder and the sausage maker attachments and my KitchenAid Mixer has become very versatile.
I purchased my KitchenAid Artisan Mixer (NEW not reconditioned) through Amazon.com for $199.00 and also got a $30.00 rebate from KitchenAid, plus free shipping and no sales tax. This same machine sells for $299.00 at the local stores, mine ended up costing $169.00 and it arrived in about 3 days.

I purchased this mixer as a shower gift for my son and future daughter-in-law. They had it on their Bridal Registry at a well known home products store, but I was able to purchase the exact model they wanted through Amazon and save $81.00! I ordered the mixer online 5 days before the bridal shower and did not expect it to arrive until several days after the shower. The ship date listed on the check out page showed that the mixer wouldn't ship until the day AFTER the shower. Imagine my surprise when it arrived, in mint condition, 2 days BEFORE the shower!! I was not planning on bringing it to the shower, as it's kind of heavy, bulky, so the original ship date was not a problem. I think I'm going to purchase another one for my daughter for Christmas. The KitchenAid Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Metallic Chrome is the best mixer I have had in the 53 years of marriage! It is a delight to use. I didn't think that we needed a mixer as I rarely made cakes or rolls because of our heart safe and dibetice diets. Previously our old mixer (another brand) burned out from making rolls. My Mother kept insisting that I needed a mixer. She bought this one for me. We are so happy that she insisted. The hook beater blends meat loafs, cookies, hamburger recipes so well that I don't have to use my athritic hands and does a quicker cleaner job. Also, it will help to make bread and roll recipes.
Buying this mixer would not have been a problem for us. We just did not know that it would be useful. It's powerful motor allows us to cook more than we thought we could.

I purchased this as a Christmas present for my wife. She had requested it saying she always wanted a mix master. I read several reviews and the choice of KitchenAid Artisan Series 5-Quart seem to the obvious choice.
It was easy to unpack and set up. My wife has used it twice and can't stop talking about what a great job it does. She says clean-up is no more than using a standalone bowl and a hand mixer. It really is a very nice design with several cool little touches that just make it better.
Oh yeah, I don't want to fail to mention that this product feels very substantial. So many products these days are plastic and just don't feel like high quality. Not the KitchenAid, this has a super high quality feel to it. Bottom line, this was a great buy!
