Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid KSM150PSMC Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Metallic ChromeCustomer Review: ANOTHER GOOD KITCHENAID PRODUCT Summary: 4 Stars
I watch Food Network all the time and let's face it, EVERY chef on that show uses Kitchenaid mixers so that's endorsement enough for me. I wanted to upgrade from my 12 year old Kitchenaid Classic since with almost anything I mixed the pin that holds the base to the top would jiggle its way out from the vibrations and it always seemed to struggle with relatively workable dough (like oatmeal raisin cookie). I was considering the Professional series but decided the footprint was too large for my kitchen (it would be difficult to store), and the reviews didn't sound resoundingly positive enough for me. The footprint of the Artisan series is almost identical to the Classic, but with more power at a good price. I would give this 4.5 stars, but not 5 because it still vibrates a little more than I'd like with heavier doughs. Overall I haven't had any problems at all with it. But for me, the real selling point was the larger bowl with the handle and the pouring shield (SUCH A LUXURY!). I don't know if this is the right product for ultra serious bakers, but for the typical, everyday user, it's definitely worth it. As for Amazon as a seller, I've NEVER had a problem with them (and choose it over other sellers on Amazon, actually). But I've had problems with Kitchenaid rebates in the past, and the streak continued with this one as well (no matter how many times I mail them in, they never seem to have them in their system so you REALLY have to follow up on them constantly).
Customer Review: Disappointed Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased this mixer after wanting one for too many years to count. Unfortunately, I ended up pretty disappointed and returned it and purchased the 5.5 qt Cuisinart instead. First the mixer arrived with some minor cosmetic damage to it. Not a functional problem but still for the price it should not arrive damaged. Second it could barely mix a small batch of fondant for a cake, the motor was just not powerful enough. I do not know how it could have possible mixed a few loaves of bread. When I was done mixing the fondant I noticed the applied covering to the dough hook had started to peel off. Another small issue I had was the design of the bowl made it hard to scrape the bowl without hitting the beater and getting batter all over your hand. Not really a big deal but an annoyance. I really wanted to love this mixer but there were too many issues and I ended up returning it. I was pretty disappointed because I had heard KitchenAid is the best mixer on the market. I then read on cooks illustrated that the Cuisinart 5.5 qt mixer had beat out the KitchenAid Artisan in their tests. So with some hesitation I purchased the Cuisinart and could not be happier. If you plan on doing more than mixing up a cake mix occasionally I would highly recommend you spend the extra money on the KitchenAid Professional or try the Cuininart 5.5 qt if like me you don't have that kind of money to spend.
Customer Review: Outstanding Mixer Summary: 5 Stars
Until recently, baking was something that I did very occasionally and a handheld mixer was a clunky but adequate solution. More recently, I thought I would try my hand and doing more baking as well as preparing more complex recipes and that inexpensive handheld just didn't seem up to the task. Enter KithcenAid and the rock solid Artisan series.
This machine is incredibly smooth in its operation and very easy to use. I am happy to say that the advice I found in reviews here on Amazon led me to adjust the mixer height right when I took it out of the box. This is definitely worth while as some of them, including mine, do seem to ship with a bit more room than you would want between the mixer and the bottom of the bowl. The good news is that it takes 1 minute to fix and is extremely easy to do.
There's no question that the Artisan is an excellent piece of equipment. It's rock solid and works beautifully. The bowl is nice and tall which will help minimize splatter even without using the included shield. The number of speeds available is more than adequate and the Artisan is easy to operate. I couldn't be happier with the purchase and highly recommend it.
Customer Review: Can't Live Without It! Summary: 5 Stars
My girlfriend of 7 years recently left me for a Russian dancer and he and her moved to his homeland. This left me in quite the pickle. She did everything for me. She cooked, cleaned, did the laundry, did daytrading for me building up inncredible wealth, and she even refinanced our home.
I won't lie to you, what I missed more than anything right away was her waffles. She made the best waffles! The batter was to the perfect consistancy. I never knew how she did it. After she left, I needed my waffles. I quit my job and started investing my wealth into finding her secret. As the months went by I began to lose hope. I was a man in shambles after NASA finally told me they didn't have the answer. After spending nearly all my money and having to sell my home, I swallowed my pride and emailed her and she said that the KitchenAid KSM150PSMC Arisan Series 5-Quart Mixer was her secret!!!! I instantly bought one! I made waffles that day and JACKPOT! They finally were back, the perfect waffles, so light, so fluffy, the secret's in the batter, and the secrect in the batter is this product! It's wonderful!
Customer Review: Why did I wait? Summary: 5 Stars
I can't believe I waited so long to purchase a KitchenAid mixer. After blowing up my latest hand mixer, I decided it was time. After hearing friends praise their KitchenAids, this was the one for me. Prior to purchasing it, I probably baked a couple of cakes per year, as it was just a pain to do with the wimpy hand mixer I had at my disposal. In the month that I've had the new mixer, I've made 6 cakes, kneaded pasta dough, and beaten eggs for ommelettes. No more standing and holding the mixer while beating for 5 minutes. I let it run while getting other things assembled or doing a few dishes.
I'm very happy with the metallic chrome color also, and I tell everyone it's the most beautiful thing I ever owned. I have bored my friends, my clients, and my husband to tears with tales of what I've made, or will be making or just about how pretty it is!
Next on the list are attachments. Then I can exhaust everyone with stories of meat grinding or ice cream making. Don't wait! Get one. Now. What are you waiting for?
