Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire RedCustomer Review: Works beautifully! Summary: 5 Stars
I received this several months ago and have used it fairly often since then. The unit is solid and runs smoothly. The attachments (dough hook, whisk, beater) all work well--they are easy to switch out as needed. However, I've noticed that they do require slightly different height settings--I keep a screwdriver on hand to make adjustments when I switch heads.
The motor is very powerful--I have not had any problem mixing batters or thick dough. The head will pop up when the motor is trying to plough through a thick bread or pizza dough, though, so it's always a good idea to lock the head down prior to starting the mixer. The mixing shield is also excellent for covering the bowl and preventing flour dust from permeating the kitchen.
The accompanying manual is easy to to understand, and even provides a glossary of common kitchen terms and how to achieve them using the mixer--perfect for someone like me who is not well versed in cooking terminology.
The mixer is well-designed and solidly built. I love it, and hope to invest in some other attachments in the future and really put that motor to use!
Customer Review: Great Mixer! Great Attachments! Great Book! Summary: 5 Stars
I got my mixer about a year ago and still love it. I got it in Wasabi green and everyone comments on how cool it looks. I spent the first 10 months baking away, making batches of cookie dough, bread and cakes galore. The mixer handled everything I threw at it (or in it) beautifully. Going from a hand held to this is a huge step up. Just a couple of months ago I got The Mixer Bible because I thought the baking chapters looked good. There were also recipes I didn't think I'd need that required attachments. I worked through a bunch of cakes and cookies from the book and I thought they were great, but I was intriqued with some of the attachment recipes too, so I bought the food grinder and eventually the pasta roller. Both attachments are worth owning. Making pasta in the mixer and then rolling it out is a snap, and I'm now doing something I never thought I'd do..... grinding my own meat. I know it sounds gross, but isn't more gross not to know what is ground up in all that meat you buy at the grocery store? Anyway, the mixer, the attachments and The Mixer Bible are now the most active tools in my kitchen.
Customer Review: Better with attachments and The Mixer Bible Summary: 5 Stars
I've had my KA Artisan for about a year now. In that time I've put it to work a great deal. I've typically baked with it and I think it preforms very well for that function. It goes without saying that it beats the life out of a hand mixer. Heavy doughs and double recipes seem to be no problem for this mixer. A few months ago I got the pasta roller and the food grinder. Both of these attachments have been great. I was given The Mixer Bible as a gift and I love that too. I use it a lot with my new attachments (great for pasta recipes), but it also has a great deal of recipes for just the regular attachments.
Because I love my mixer and attachments so much, I went out and got the pasta maker attachment(supposed to work like an extruder), and have had no luck at all working with that one (no wonder the book doesn't have any recipes for that attachment). It just doesn't work at all.
So...in brief, the mixer is well worth owning, The Mixer Bible is well worth owning, the pasta roller and food grinder are both good. Don't bother with the pasta maker.
Customer Review: I should have bought one years ago! Summary: 5 Stars
I've wanted a Kitchenaid mixer for many years but could never justify the price with the limited amount of baking that I do. But with the addition of all the attachments now available and a recent Amazon sale I decided to go for it. I never should have waited so long! I've had my mixer for two days and have used it to make fresh ground hamburger and chicken, lemon squares, and cookies. The cookie recipe my family loves has always been a pain and very messy so I hardly ever made them. But with the KA Artisan mixer the work was drastically lessened and the only time I got my hands dirty was when I took the mixer blade off to wash it! My cookie dough was perfectly blended, no clumps of unmixed flour or sticky dough under my nails. The only problem was when I added the flour, forgot to put the pouring shield on, and accidentally turned the mixer on a bit to high. Poof! I had flour all over! But that was my own fault, not the mixers. In short, this mixer is an amazing appliance that will not only make your time in the kitchen easier, it will make it enjoyable!
Customer Review: kitchenaid superior mixer Summary: 5 Stars
It took me a while to save for this but now that I have my credit cards paid off, I wanted to splurge. I have made some of the ones that come with the appliance, and some of the ones from opra's tv show, and they came out just perfect and delicious. Please if you don't have one of these, you need to get one, you'll be amazed at the quality of your baking with this appliance. I never thought I could make any cookies completely from scratch, now I will never go back to store bought cookies when I can make them my own and know exactly what went in them. No preservatives or additives and just delicious. :) I used to buy store bought cookies and ready to bake packages for cookies and cakes, etc. I started watching oprah last year . She always shows nice productcs and most of the time ask her guest if they have one and how fabulous it is, and if they don't have one that they should really get one. So, I finally decided to take opra's word and went and got the red colored one. I just love it. So far the cookies I have made with it are so easy to make.
