Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid KSB5WH 5-Speed Blender, WhiteCustomer Review: This model is Discontinued Summary: 3 Stars
I had this blender for over 10 years. It started to leak around the jar's base a few years ago. I tried to order a new gasket online but was unable to because the model was discontinued. I was very disappointed because the motor is still good and so is the jar and lid. Kitchenaid should still manufacture these gaskets, the blender is now useless and I was forced to buy a new kitchenaid blender which cost $100. The new blender is all in one so I can't put the jar (which is plastic) in the dishwasher like I could with the old glass one. The new one is not as easy to clean. The motor on the old model is very powerful, I used the old blender alot, but the leaking got worse and worse. I now have it in my basement, if they come out with the gasket for my old model I would order several as this machine has many years of service left. (You did have to be careful not to unscrew the jar from the base inadvertantly while full of liquid, if you did you would have a huge mess.)
Customer Review: Good Luck or Good Product? Summary: 5 Stars
After reading most of the reviews for this blender I decided to add my own. I've owned this blender for over a year now and it works beautifully. I use it mainly for making smoothies, usually for myself, but often for family and friends when visiting. If its for 1 cup or a full container it does a great job. I put 1/2 cup water or milk, ice, frozen strawberries, sometimes bananas, apples and/or pineapple into the recipes. This blender makes them into a very smooth drink in quick time and no chucks of ice or fruit in the bottom. I put everything into the container and just let it run, it pulls everything through the blades on it's own. I've seen lots of these reviews showing theirs don't do the job, as my title states I either got lucky or it really is an excellent product and the ones that did the other reviews have had bad luck. I do recommend this blender (mine is the onyx black with glass container).
Customer Review: Works great until something breaks Summary: 3 Stars
We were very happy with the blender ... until it needed replacement parts. 1st time -- kids broke the blender jar. We knew it would not be cheap to replace, but because the style had changed slightly, we were forced to buy the blade mechanism that fits onto the jar and a new lid -- about half the price of a blender. 2nd time -- this is much worse -- while grating cheese, I hastily put the blender onto its base and started it up. Because the blender jar was not on right, the little nubby rubber things were shaved off of the blender base. My appliance repair store told me it happens all of the time and they could fix it for less than $20 -- but that was BEFORE Kitchen Aid took the part off of the market -- seems they just want to sell new blenders now. We're very disappointed in Kitchen Aid's customer service -- we have a perfectly good blender base and jar assembly, but can't get the small replacement part.
Customer Review: broke twice and can't get replacement parts Summary: 1 Stars
don't waste your money on this blender. I have had it a couple of years and it broke two times. First the blade broke. Kitchenaid no longer made the blade so we had to spend $35.00 on a whole new jar assembly. Than about a year later the black coupler with the 6 little teeth that spin the blades began to break off until they were all completely gone. now we are left with a bottom unit that works but can not spin the blades and a new jar assembly that we wasted money on.. Ok so we call Kitchenaid again and they do not make this part either!! Also we were told you need to buy a special tool to fix the blender and what do you know? they don't sell that either!!!! I think this blender has some serious design flaws and would strongly advise people to think hard before you waste any money on this blender!! We will be buying a new Wering blender!!!
Customer Review: One heck of a milkshake machine! Summary: 5 Stars
I use this blender to make shakes, smoothies, ice cream toppings, beverages, and batters. It will effortlessly mix, shred, grind, pulvarize, and crush while incorporating a good amount of air into the product. The results are smooth, and consistant. It won't bog down. Ice is a non-issue here. Don't stick your hand in the pitcher when it's plugged in :) This machine can easily handle stuff that would kill other blenders. Nothing that I know of has stood up to my industrial-strength expresso/fudge/whipped topping/hard frozen ice cream shakes (OK, a cement mixer would be the exception here). After more then 5 years, it's still going strong and has not failed me. This Kitchenaid represents the best money I spent for a blender; the most bang for the buck. I will make no appologies for this purchase. MrCoffee
