Customer Review: Help! I can't unscrew my jar!
Summary: 3 Stars

I've had this blender for a few years and have been happy with it, but after washing it last time I accidentally reassembled it without the black rubber ring, and now the darn thing is stuck. Without the ring, the jar is not watertight, so the liquids you put in it flow right through it all over the countertop. Everyone in my house has tried to unscrew it, and I called Kitchenaid and they suggested soaking it in hot water--no dice. Now, I live in Los Angeles, and they do not have an authorized repair place in the city of LA. Does that not seem ridiculous? This is the second largest city in the US. There is one in Santa Monica, but this is a drive clear across town that takes me a couple of hours round trip. I even looked at replacing the jar element, but it adds up to nearly the cost of a new one. Then I went out and bought a new KitchenAid blender that I thought was the same one but it has a crappy plastic jug and the motor seems to strain when making milkshakes, so I'm bringing that back. So I'm warning my fellow blender users. Do not forget to put that black rubber ring in place. I am disappointed in KitchenAid, I thought they were a better brand than all of this seems to bear out.

Customer Review: Good price for the durability initially
Summary: 5 Stars

My husband and I have frozen fruit smoothies for breakfast 95% of the time. We have gone through our share of blenders in the last 10 years. We decided to give this blender a chance (because I love my Kitchen Aid stand mixer so much) before stepping up to a Vita Mix blender. So far it has been a good purchase.

A positive feature of this machine is the ease of taking it apart to clean. I also like the reasonably quiet operation. Additionally, the blender does not have any difficulty chewing through frozen bananas or berries. The machine also has some weight to it making it difficult to knock over accidentally.

I am a little surprised to report that this blender is still going strong after a year of almost daily service. If you are looking for a serviceable blender at a reasonable price this appears to be a winner. I will post an update of this machine if it ceases to function as advertised.

Update: August 3, 2006

This machine has started to leak around the seal. The problem is that the model has been discontinued and they no longer sell replacement parts for it. So we stepped up to a Vita-Mix blender.

Customer Review: Horrible, die you piece of garbage!
Summary: 1 Stars

I had purchased two of these.
When the product worked, I never had a problem with a dislodging base (bonehead move) or it NOT blending fruit for smoothies. In fact, I put frozen fruit in my smoothies, ice, bananas, juice and it makes smoothies perfectly.
The problem I had is with the motherboard. It has gone crazy again on me.
The first blender I had for about 5 yrs, and abused it with daily smoothies, soups, etc. So I figured I worked it to death.
The second blender within a year had the EXACT SAME problem. Motherboard goes senile.
The lights all start blinking and then you have to turn off the blender, turn it back on, it will only work for a few seconds, before the motor stops and all lights blink again.
Fooled my twice, shame on me!
I am now getting a simple blender without all the computer-type button teknology and will not be looking at a kitchenaid blender for a LONG LONG time.
$20 would be too much for this future paperweight.

I loath you, you piece of fancy garbage!
I hope you drive Satan insane with your fickle operation!

Customer Review: Returned - how sad!
Summary: 3 Stars

When our blender died, and we were faced with a dinner party that evening, we ran right out and bought Kitchen Aid. We owned their other products and have NEVER been disappointed, until now.
We had a drink on the menu, a concoction we picked up in the Caribbean - simple: 3 ingredients, Rum (of course), creme of coconut, and Lime. Add the ingredients, chopped the lime, topped with ice and let 'er rip. Quiet, smooth. Produced the nicest blended drink you've ever seen - until you came across a huge chunk of lime in your drink! Back we went to the kitchen = this time slicing the limes - same results, just with long slices of lime rind in your mouth. Called Kitchen Aid, yes, they do not have sharp blades. Therefore, the limes bounce off the blades. So the dilemma, keep the work horse and do some of it's job, such as zest the lime and squeeze the juice by hand, but isn't that what it's supposed to do for you? So, sadly, we put it back in the box and took it back and bought a competitor's blender. Come on Kitchen Aid, get your blender up to Par so we can keep it in the family!

Customer Review: Won't even puree a really ripe banana cut into small pieces
Summary: 2 Stars

I don't write many reviews, but I am compelled to tell you how disappointed I am in this appliance. While I have a KitchenAid mixer I love, and other KitchenAid items, I totally feel like I've wasted our money getting this blender. I thought the brand name and "professional" quality with stainless steal container, and pricey price would mean something.. Our blender is not even a year old, it makes really weird noises (like the gears are slipping), gets an electrical smell if you run it more than a minute, and worst of all... it won't even puree the banana chunks in a fruit smoothie. I have even chopped the bananas (really ripe ones) into small 1/4 inch pieces and STILL end up with chunks in the bottom of the container--no matter how many times we pulse it or how long we run it. We NEVER had such difficulty with our Oster--it was just old and the glass jar got broken. I have just ordered a new Oster and am very disappointed that I couldn't count on KitchenAid to make a quality blender. :-(
