Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid KSB5PK4 Komen Foundation, 5-Speed Blender, PinkCustomer Review: Makes "lumpies", not smoothies Summary: 2 Stars
This blender looks great! It's much quieter than my 14-speed Osterizer blender -- which still works, but I want a quiet blender for making my family's top o' the morning smoothies. So, into the KitchenAid 5-speed blender, I poured limeade, ice cubes and green grapes and let it all blend on "liquefy" (the top speed) for what seemed like a very long time. What a poured into the first glass was actually a "lumpie" -- not a smoothie. I processed it again for a full minute. Still, some of the pieces were as big as half a grape. I pulled out the noisy old Osterizer, dumped the "lumpie" mixture into it and within seconds, it was a refreshing smoothie.
But, still wanting this beautiful, quieter Kitchenaid blender, I made a second batch with a new strategy. First I tossed in the ice cubes and pressed "liquefy" -- and it quickly pulverized the ice into a snow-like texture. Good sign! Then I added the grapes and pressed "liquefy". After what seemed like forever, I peeked inside. Seemed pretty pureed. So I added the limeade and pressed "liquefy". Poured it into my glass. Not *as* lumpy, but still chewy hunks of grape skin. My husband said he wouldn't drink it that way. So I tossed it back into the ol' Osterizer and within seconds, it truly was a frothy smoothie.
I'm returning this gorgeous, quiet machine. My search for a quiet *and* powerful blender continues. Until then, the old Osterizer looks better than ever.
