Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid KSB5OB 5-Speed Blender, Onyx BlackCustomer Review: very poor design blender Summary: 1 Stars
Very BAD design.
I own this blender for more than 9 months now. Just like few others, I did some research before buying this blender and I am still very disappointed with the performance.
This blender may be powerful with glass jar and good at crushing ice but it failed to do what a blender supposed to do which is to puree and liquefy foods!!! It has to do with the design of this blender.
- The problem is the shape of the glass (wide at the base). Other blender like Oster has their glass sloped like a funnel channeling material towards the blades. But this one is like a tube shape so you can sit there and blend for literally a long time and still have chunks of stuff not puree and not liquefied.
I bought this even after seeing some bad review because some others said using minimum of liquid (like with different amount of liquid) or using different speed (like pulse) or run it for longer time will do the job. BUT actually it made NO DIFFERENT. In 9 months I own this, I tried everything I can think of and it still cannot puree and liquefied without leaving some small chunks!!!!
When you read other reviews that give good feedback, make sure check how long they use it and what they use it for. This blender may be only good for limited use (like crushing ice). But if you want a blender to, uh, "blend" fruits, vegetables, soya beans etc, you'd better keep looking, since, amazingly, this model is not designed to do that. Even people gave good reviews said it will still wind up with small chunks!!!
Description of KitchenAid KSB5OB 5-Speed Blender, Onyx BlackWhirl up a fruit and yogurt smoothie to get your morning off to a healthy and energetic start. Or wind down after work with an icy cold margarita. But that's not all: chop ice, grind coffee beans, puree soup and much, much more. This is the blender of the future. It performs all the traditional blending tasks (crushing ice for margaritas, thinning ice cream) plus it can be used like a food processor (mincing garlic, puréeing peppers). The wide jar is rounder and squatter than old-style blenders, which makes it easier to reach in and scrape the sides (when the blender is off!). To reduce splatters of strawberry daiquiri, the Step Start feature starts blending slowly, then picks up to the chosen speed. This blender also comes with a booklet containing 75 recipes--my favorite is the Frosty Chocolate Raspberry Latté. --Dana Van Nest Editor's Choice:KitchenAid's five-speed blender has a number of functions that set it above the crowd as our choice for best blender under $100. It starts with the five speed settings and the pulse function, which works at any of the speeds--a really nice touch. The blender's 40-ounce glass jar has a squat shape, making it more manageable than taller blenders, and comes completely apart.
