Customer Review: Big problems prevents greatness

This blender has many strong points and that's what makes it such a shame that shoddy craftsmanship prevents me from recommending it. First, I'll start with the strong points:
1) The pitcher is large and absurdly easy to clean. Do not underestimate the importance of an easy-to-clean pitcher! This is roughly as hard to clean as a standard drinking glass. Other blenders I've owned were a nightmare to clean and some even seem designed for the sole purpose of being difficult to clean, but this one is a breeze.
2) It has a powerful motor
3) It has a nice, heavy base.
Now I have to get to the flaws in increasing order of importance:
1) It's loud. Oh well.
2) Smoothies require protein powder in order to blend otherwise the chunky stuff will accumulate at the top and only sink down to the blades with manual force.
3) Over time, the base will leak.
4) The pitcher has a cog on the bottom that connects to the motor on the base. This cog is the piece into which the blades are attached: spin the cog and you spin the blades. Here's the problem: the cog is made from plastic and over time the motor will wear off the notches from the cog so that the motor can no longer spin the cog. Sometimes this is a gradual problem and sometimes it will occur with one use. The cog can even melt completely and completely expose the metal stud underneath. I think it all depends upon which version of the pitcher you get with your blender.
I originally bought this blender in 2006 or so and within a few months the cog was worn smooth. The store (Bed Bath and Beyond) replaced it and that one lasted until 2010, but for the last few years I had to fight with the leak on the bottom. In 2010 the cog on this pitcher also shredded off and Bed Bath and Beyond replaced it again to my surprise. I only went in the store to see about buying a new pitcher! Now having had this 3rd, and slightly redesigned, pitcher I had the worst problem yet when the cog melted into a watery clear liquid! The stud within the cog is completely exposed and clean! The plastic of the cog remained in the base, it cooled, and I remove it and it's in the shape of a cog except it is circled by what looks like a splash! It'd be funny it this wasn't so annoying!
I use this (these?) blender(s) a lot and mix frozen strawberries and blueberries into a smoothie on a daily basis. I put roughly 28oz of water into it so it's not like I'm blending nothing but frozen chunks. I also add protein power because without the powder the slush does not blend properly.
My latest problem occurred because I ran out of protein powder and was using some powered milk. This made it challenging to blend as the chunky top wouldn't circulate down to the blades as it would if I had used some protein powder. Because of this, I had blended longer than normal and I guess it just liquidified everything!
