Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid KSB5 5-Speed Blender, Majestic YellowCustomer Review: KitchenAid blender's wide bottom doesn't jam. Summary: 5 Stars
There are several reasons why I love using this blender.1) The wide bottom jar: My last few blenders had the more traditional jar which narrows toward the bottom. That desgin usually jammed with anything thick (contents at the bottom would spin while the contents at the top would sit still and didn't "blend" at all). The KitchenAid's wide bottom wont "jam". Contents at all depths of the jar are circulated providing a smooth consistent blend. While there are more features to like - this one advantage was enough to make me never glance at another blender again. 2) Buttons: My last 2 blenders had a row of buttons. Food spills (ice cream shakes) would invariably drip down the side of the jar onto the base and through the holes where the buttons come through the base. The buttons would gum up and eventually stop working. The KitchenAid covers the buttons with a solid membrane. Nothing can leak in and any drips are easily cleaned away with a single wipe. 3) Clean design: There are really no cracks and crevices where food or drink spills can hide making this blender easy to disassemble and clean. 4) Heavy: Every part of this blender is sturdy and heavy. The jar isn't plastic, it's glass... thick glass. The lid doesn't push on, it does a quick twist-lock on. The base feels like it's cast metal - not some cheap molded plastic or thin metal like a tin can. I have no fear about loading it up, pushing the button, and walking away to prepare something else while the blender does the work. I don't need to hold the lid down and keep everything together as I did with my previous blenders. Often times expensive "brand name" items really aren't noticeably any better than than their less expensive generic equivalents. This is not the case with this item. The design is substantially better than a typical blender.
Description of KitchenAid KSB5 5-Speed Blender, Majestic YellowThis is the blender of the future. It performs all the traditional blending tasks (crushing ice for margaritas, thinning ice cream), plus you can use it like a food processor (mincing garlic, puréeing peppers). The wide jar is rounder and squatter than old-style blenders, which makes it easier to reach in and scrape the sides (when the blender is off!). To reduce splatters of strawberry daiquiri, the Step Start feature starts blending slowly, then picks up to the chosen speed. This blender also comes with a booklet containing 75 recipes--my favorite is the Frosty Chocolate Raspberry Latté. --Dana Van Nest Editor's Choice:KitchenAid's five-speed blender has a number of functions that set it above the crowd as our choice for best blender under $100. It starts with the five speed settings and the pulse function, which works at any of the speeds--a really nice touch. The blender's 40-ounce glass jar has a squat shape, making it more manageable than taller blenders, and comes completely apart.
