I purchased this toaster for my wife, primarily because I trusted the KitchenAid name. After about 7 months, this morning the toaster refused to lock down the bread slices and we had to use the oven to get toast. I assumed that it needed to be cleaned, but after thoroughly cleaning it - still wouldn't work. I removed the cover to see if something was broken and found enough electronics to put my stereo system to shame. Even the release mechanism seemed to be magnetic rather than purely mechanical. There was no way to fix it. It's now in the garage with the rest of my trash. I don't get it. My mother's toaster lasted over 35 years! It's no wonder our economy is in the tank.
