Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid KHB300OB Hand Blender, Onyx BlackCustomer Review: Beautiful, light-weight and works wonders for such a little piece of equipment! Summary: 5 Stars
My little helper is over 6 years old now. It's still as reliable as the first day I used it.
Okay for the breakdown: what you get...
The Accessory Bag: this is a nice sturdy bag for storing everything, and it does clean up very well in the washing machine.
The Hand Blender (or Stick Blender, as I like to call it): This little wand device is awesome, light weight and easy to hold/handle with a perfect length cord for many tasks. (I also own a Philips hand blender & chopper that is similar, BUT it is too heavy and the handle/grip is too wide) This KA does a great job mixing up drinks, pancake batter (and other thin batters), soups & sauces (even in the pan, while heating!), mayonaise, dressings and whipped cream. It's a very helpful and powerful kitchen tool; that comes with blender and wire whisk attachments.
Beaker w/ Lid: perfect size to easily mix in, sturdy, and the lid is an extra bonus.
The Chopper: the chopper chamber is perfect size for chopping up small batches of ingredients. This is very useful when you don't want to bring out the big food processor, for chopping up small jobs. The blender base attaches to the chopper in the same easy way as the other attachments.
Overall...
Cleanup is very easy with all of the parts. All parts to this blender set are sturdy enough for their jobs, but light-weight enough for easy handling (I have arthritis in the hands). My hand blender gets used frequently with no hassles. I also love the color selection, and I was able to match this with my onyx black KA Stand Mixer.
Other stick blender/chopper sets I've used are Philips, Cuisinart and Braun. Cuisinart was my first one, and it blew up after two year's use. The 2nd was Braun (given as a gift) and that poor baby didn't even last after 6 months. Then, I was gifted with a Philips set, and although the motor runs great and it still hasn't died (only hubby uses it, sparingly and I'll let him take that one to work), I can't handle the dang thing...it's too heavy. KitchenAid, well it's been at least 6 years and it still goes strong, regardless (it gets used much more often than the Philips). I'd recommend this hand blender set to anyone.
Customer Review: gotta love it! Summary: 4 Stars
My 30 year old GE blender/food processor combo broke a blade on the blender part and I could not get the part so I had to toss the blender container, leaving it as a stand-alone food processor. After debating on buying another countertop appliance, which probably would not be as durable as something made 30 years ago, I decided to give this blender a try. I've always liked KitchenAid products, and this one is no acception.
I was surprised at the power of this blender! The best part for me is it's easy to clean and takes up so little kitchen real estate. Making soups and hummus was a breeze. Whisking up egg whites was so much less painful than dragging out the mixmaster...just give yourself a big enough bowl or they will be all over the kitchen. The small food processing container is just the right size for 1 or 2 people. The variable speed lets me control how coarse my chopping is too. I did find that turning the entire apparatus upside down and sideways or shaking it helped in chopping everything uniformly...but it only took a couple of seconds.
I would have given this blender a solid 5 stars, but making smoothies with ice was not perfect, although once I got the technique down (moving the blender up and down and and around a lot to "attack" the ice) it was ok. It took more than a few seconds. If you drink a lot of ice blended drinks or smoothies, this job is done more efficiently on a good conventional blender. If you only will use it occasionally for this purpose, the KitchenAid will do fine. Maybe KitchenAid could come up with a special blade or container/blade combo for ice blending, I'm sure a lot of people would buy it, I know I would.
All in all, I don't regret my purchase at all. It's a versatile and compact appliance that will be with me for years to come.
Customer Review: Brilliant Kitchen Technology Summary: 5 Stars
I would classify myself as an experimental cook. I love kitchen equipment and really involved recipes. I'm not one, however to just purchase any tool for the kitchen. It must be a "multi-tasker" as Alton Brown would say, and it must be of professional kitchen quality.
This immersion blender, stick blender, hand held blender (whatever name you know it by) has all the glorious features that make it worthy of my kitchen.
There is an adjustable speed setting, which is fantastic when you are blending a light sauce and don't wish to splatter the whole kitchen. The shaft is a durable stainless steel and the blender portion has some nice features as well. For one, the end that is submurged is not flat, but rather has peaks and valleys. This prevents the force of the blade turning from suctioning itself to the base of your pot. The intake holes are larger which helps when you have a very chunky product that you wish to make smooth.
The atachments are amazing. I was able to survive for near a decade in the kitchen without a food processor by using the little processing attachment. I've not had the use for the wisk, however in comparison to my previous model, this wisk is much sturdier and I could see the benefit over hand wisking.
I received mine off of my registry from another supplier, so I am uncertain is this one comes with the bag. But storage is much easier when you can keep all the stick attachments organized.
If you are thinking about adding this item to your kitchen tools, you can't do better with more features at this price than the KitchenAid. I highly recommend it.
Customer Review: Powerful, efficient, easy to clean Summary: 5 Stars
This thing is powerful, even on the lower speeds. I use it mostly to blend smoothies in a stainless steel canister and this hand blender is so powerful that I have to hold the canister down or the blender will suck it up to the blade hood. It's not unbearably heavy or unweildy either, it has a decent motor in it so I expected it to be heavier than a regular stick blender. I love that it has an adjustable speed/power on it. First time I used it was for a berry smoothie, I was finished blending and tried to remove the blade attachment by pushing in the release buttons and I pulled and it apart only to knock into the canister with the smoothie in it, sending smoothie flying all over the counter and floor. Having learned that lesson, I now disassemble the unit over the sink and away from anything I might knock over. I've used the wisk attachment too which is extremely handy. Only one complaint, like other reviewers said, the storage bag is completely inadequate for all of the peices of this unit. I have "made" them all fit but it is not easy and very tight. I can't get the cord in there at all. The storage bag should be slightly bigger to accommodate it all. Otherwise the product itself is awesome, powerful, and very handy. The cord is even long enough to reach from my outlet to the stovetop in my small galley kitchen, which makes pureeing soups so much easier.
Customer Review: Something I always wanted but never knew until I got it. Summary: 5 Stars
I had been looking into getting an Immersion Blender for a few months. I had looked at different models and weighted a number of different features. For what I wanted to spend it came to the KitchenAid and the Viking. It also came down to online and not retail. Eventually I chose the KitchenAid, because it had an adjustable speed control.
I wanted to use it the first day I got it, but I did not have any meals planned that would take advantage of its functions. Then a week or so later I roasted some tomatillos to make a verde, green, sauce to cook some chicken breasts for taco meat. I used it to puree the roasted tomatillos, fresh garlic, and onion it did a fantastic job, the sauce turnout great. I took some potatoes I had slow cooked with a roast and turned them into beefy mashed potatoes. I was looking into getting a ricer to mash potatoes, not now, I will use the Immersion Blender, it did a really great job of mashing the potatoes, skins and all.
I have many great hopes and ideas for this product and look forward to many great meals built using it and its attachments. I can't wait to explore using the chopper and the whisk.
I am thoroughly happy with this product and recommend it to anyone wanting a good tool to aid them in their cooking
