Since I got a (mostly) new kitchen in 2007, I learned how to cook, and I dare say I've bought nearly every kitchen 'gadget' I've seen on sale, or rationalized that I had to have. Trust me, my kitchen is a mess with small appliances I've used once (if ever), no really, trust me, don't look in the lower cabinets. It's disgusting. The one item I never considered purchasing was an immersion blender. I didn't really understand what they were for, and I've had a KA Stand Mixer, which I use to whip mashed potatoes regularly. I assumed that was all a stick blender did. When I started reading reviews, I realized there was a lot this little puppy could do, and boy, did I get my money's worth on this one, in less than 6 weeks already.
I debated back and forth going with the lesser model, and figured for the minor price difference, I would go ahead and get the 300. (See I'm a kitchen gadget junkie!) Well, I have pulled out the stick blender at least 6-9 times a week since I've gotten it. I've used it to make smoothies in the morning (disclaimer: not as effective as a blender, but SO much easier to clean), puree tons of soups I'd never made before, whisk up the fluffiest homemade pancake batter I've ever made, and make several different salad dressings, as well as used the mini chopper to process small amounts of nuts (straight from the freezer), mince garlic, mince shallots, and chop fresh herbs. Now, I admit, I cook and bake a LOT more than most people, so me being able to use this so frequently is mostly due to this fact. I make at least least two batches of granola as well as some kind of fruit and nut muffins weekly, so I use the mini chopper almost as much as the blender to chop nuts alone. Seriously three pulses perfectly chops frozen nuts for easy baking.
Cleaning is too easy. Rinse under warm water when your done with it, let it sit until you have a sink full of dishes. Lightly wash with soap and water, not real scrubbing required. That is my kind of gadget. Within the first three days I commented to my husband, how did I ever live without this. And it's true. This little guy has been a HUGE help in my kitchen, way more helpful that my husband and with half the mess! It's a killer good deal at Amazon, if you're considering, stop. Just buy it, and enjoy.
