Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid KHB100OB Hand Blender, Onyx BlackCustomer Review: MacDaddy of hand blenders Summary: 5 Stars
I have owned a couple of Braun hand blenders and for the most part, it does an excellent job. However when it comes to grating/chopping fresh coconuts (yes we use it a lot in our Indian cuisine), it struggles and have broken down in the past. This KitchenAid crushes the fresh coconut (the fruit inside the shell) without any problems. Also I ues it to blend smoothies for the kids from the grocery bought frozen packs. It works very well all the time. Same with fresh fruits too. This little gadget is amazing. Also my wife uses it for making fresh tomato sauce right inside the cooking stock pot. Chopping onions & fresh cilantro for salsas is a breeze with this tool.
Customer Review: Good product; horrible anti-environmental packaging Summary: 2 Stars
This is my first immersion blender, but I am impressed with its capabilities so far. I do like the multi-speed options and it seems to be a sturdy little instrument.
The packaging, however, is a crime against the earth!! I would never have bought it, had I known that it came sandwiched between two huge nonbiodegradeable slabs of styrofoam. This aspect of the product seriously brings down its star rating in my book.
Amazon, you too, put on an offensive packaging show. The KitchenAid box was packed in a huge box, many times larger than the purchased product, and stuffed with non-recyclable plastic. :(
Customer Review: Love, Love, Love it! Summary: 5 Stars
This is my second Kitchenaid Immersion Blender. I caused an untimely death of my previous one (I had it for 5 years) through stupidity. I use this appliance so much that I got rid of my blender. I use it most for homemade hummus and frozen fruit smoothies or coffee drinks. Very sturdy. Cheaper imitations can not grind through the ice like this baby can grind. Don't bother with the little container that comes with it, use a big bowl or drink pitcher. I do use the small container for cleaning the blender. I fill it with hot soapy water and run the Kitchenaid immersion blender in the soapy water then rinse.
Customer Review: Hand blender Summary: 4 Stars
This is a very attractive and convenient kitchen tool. It's easy to use, easy to clean, and does a nice job of blending. You can't blend anything that is deeper than the blending attachment, so you can't have a pot of soup, say, that's deeper than about nine inches or you have to do it in batches.
Also, if you have big chuncks in the mixture, you'll need to really move the blending attachment up and down a lot to "chew" up the big pieces. There is a neat container included with the blender that you can use for smoothies or sauces, with its own seal cap. High quality container, very nice for small-batch stuff.
Customer Review: Works great, but be CAREFUL Summary: 5 Stars
Bought the blender for my wife and have used it a good few times for making small amounts of whipped cream (takes just a few seconds), and general blending for desserts. Blender if very powerful and works very well for all mixing jobs I've tried.
One day I, very stupidly, was wiping the blade area with my finger while the blender was still plugged in. You can guess what happened next. 12 stitches later I still can't believe my stupidity. Remember there is no safety feature on this product like there is with a food processor and it is just as dangerous.
