Customer Review: Good, but food gets trapped in the shaft

This is our second hand held blender. The first one died too early, but we liked using it so much for our morning smoothies that we bought another. This one is working ok, but like other reviewers stated, the rubber seal came loose and trapped food. The seal is not removable because of the blades. Food gets in the shaft and is next-to-impossible to clean. The seal was just loose enough to trap food, and not noticeable at first. By the time we noticed it, food had dried was stuck about 1/4" up the shaft. We still use it, but it requires tedious methods to clean and keep sanitary. We're hoping Kitchenaid addresses this issue in subsequent models. It's a great blender, but buyer beware.Customer Review: Makes frothy iced coffee drinks right in the glass!!

I bought this for my wife several months ago, and we use it almost every day while our old blender continues to gather dust. We make iced coffee drinks, and this is perfect for them- they come out frothy and well blended.
Other uses we found- mixes the sweetener into the whole pitcher of iced tea in seconds- Makes quick and easy milkshakes for the kids with a scoop of ice cream, milk and chocolate mix- makes the BEST gravy right in the pot, I could go on and on
It also fits perfectly in a drawer right next to the stove, cleans GREAT. I'm thinking of buying another at this price, just to have one for our RV!

Ok Tip Hero asked its readers which appliance they can live without so as I was writing that I chucked my Food Processor and Ice Cream maker I mentioned this stick blender is the most awsome thing in my kitchen. I came back to link to this and thought I'd write a review while I'm here.

When I decided to purchase a stick blender, I knew I wanted something that would last. Thats why I spent the extra money and went with Kitchen Aid. Like the title says, I've had this thing for over a year and it is still functioning perfectly. I expect it to work for many more years.
I use mine mostly for blending soups and smoothing out sauces. It excels at this. Cleanup is very easy. I am so glad I don't have to put multiple batches of soup into a standard blender anymore(was soooo messy). The container that comes with the stick blender is high quality, and a nice bonus.
I'd recommend to anyone who likes to cook and will get regular use out of it.

You really can't go wrong with KitchenAid. Form and Function must be their mantra. I use this for sorbet, soups and other instances where a food processor is inconvenient. In fact, I've put my black and decker blender into storage - with the handblender who needs it. You have the very convenient control of the angle. Gone are the days of stick a knife in the blender to get everything blended.
The speed control is perfect and the blender is precise enough that you can partially blend items easily. Clean up is a snap and the lower half separates from the motor half. Like my KitchenAid mixer, I get the feeling that I'm going to have this tool for life.
