Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid KHB100OB Hand Blender, Onyx BlackCustomer Review: Very Pleased With Performance! Summary: 5 Stars
I chose this brand based upon my positive experience with another KitchenAid appliance that is still going strong after 13 years. However, this is the first immersion blender I have owned, so I really cannot compare it directly to other brands. I can only compare this product with a traditional blender, which is what I have always used in the past. With that reference, I can say that I have been pleased with this blender in every way. It certainly has a lot of power, with 9 levels to choose from, and it gets the job done quickly. I can mix ingredients right in the bowl instead of having to pour them into a pitcher and then pour them out again. The clean-up afterwords is SO EASY as compared with a traditional blender. Probably the only thing it won't do (for my purposes) is to crush ice. But it is wonderful for soups, beverages, sauces, & batters. I expect that it will last a long time.
Customer Review: Best hand blender I've owned Summary: 5 Stars
KitchenAid products are usually heavier than similar products and this one is no exception. The heft of the unit, the thick black cord, the metal components, all give a sense of durability that KichenAid is famous for. But how does it work?
In a word, it works great. It blends everything quicker than a blender. When you are done, the bottom detaches easily for hand washing or for standing up on the counter while you move in your kitchen. My last hand blender had to be carefully rested on the side of a bowl or over the sink when I was done so as not to get drips everywhere. This one detaches easily. I don't think I've ever washed the part with the motor. As soon as I'm done blending, I detach the bottom part (with the blade) and drop it in the sink. Then I put the top part (motor part) away for next time. Very convenient.
Customer Review: Great for smoothies Summary: 5 Stars
I have had this unit for about a month now and have used it to make smoothies. It has no problem with (rock solid) frozen fruit, and blends liquids with ease. The unit is larger than I expected and heavier, but not that either makes it uncomfortable. It has a very solid feel and appears very well made. The blade is covered and well protected with a heavy metal shroud. All of the controls are conveniently located. The on/off switch must be held in for the unit to operate and shuts off automatically when released. Clean-up is easy. I just filled the supplied container with hot water and a couple of drops of dishwashing detergent and turn the unit on the lowest speed for a couple of seconds and it self-cleans. When drying it, be sure to either disconnect the power cord or separate the two sections, before cleaning the blade.
Customer Review: Puree in a Huree Summary: 5 Stars
The Immersion blender is a tool that as a professional chef I couldn't live without. In a professional kitchen I like the one that is the size of a 250cc Evenrude. However at home I require something a little more subtle. This little beauty gets the job done and does it without any hassle whatsoever. It works and works well. Soups are short work especially if you like creamy pureed soups like Butternut squash, with apple. Or it's great for making tomato sauce like I did recently for my Chicken Cacciatore recipe [...] where I put it to very good use. If I were looking for an immersion blender for my home or professional kitchen this is the one to buy.KitchenAid KHB100OB Hand Blender, Onyx Black
Customer Review: Works great but breaks somehow easily Summary: 2 Stars
I owned this blender for more than 2 years. Not long after purchasing I noticed the plastic piece under the blades came lose and stay lose. No way to push it back or anything. Anyhow, it continued to work... until the plastic piece that attaches to the motor worn out so the motor spins but the blender does not. Some reviewers experienced exactly the same issues.
Now, for the value, it is up to you. After all, it did last me 2 long years of heavy usage (2-3 times a week for soup and a special banana ice cream) always on max power.
However bottom line for me it is disappointing that Kitchen Aid does not offer replacement for the blender portion... making me throw away a perfect, functioning motor. Where is their sustainability message? Hello Kitchen aid, anyone there?
