We got this for our wedding and it's great! Much more useful than a traditional blender, because it's easier to clean and you can use it with any container. Today I used it to blend a potato-lentil soup in the pot. I would have never used a traditional blender for this, and a potato masher will make the soup chunky. This is the handiest tool for anyone that's into cooking. My wife and I primarily use it for homemade soups and sauces. When a recipe calls for the food processor or a blender to puree a mix this is a better option. No mess, no batches, just leave everything in the stockpot or the bowl and dip your immersion blender in. It's powerful as hell! Even tears through whole tomatoes. This hand blender is absolutely great for the myriad quick mixing jobs that crop up during cooking. Just grab it, turn it on, do the job and then it cleans up in just a few seconds. Way easier than using the regular mixer. The only downside at all is that the long cord is fairly stiff and takes up a bit of room on the counter laying around the tool. I bought this for my wife because our other blender would blow the lid off when we blended hot liquids (yeah, totally NOT AWESOME. Imagine someone puking scalding hot coffee in your face). I so far have only used this guy for shakes, but it's perfectly capable of blending frozen strawberries at the lowest speed. The only problem I'm faced with is where to store it. Small potatoes. I actually bought this blender as a birthday gift for my dad, and he LOVES it. He called me right after he used it and said that it's really heavy duty and could stand up to anything. He also said it's very large, and looks like a blender they would use in a restaurant. So if you are looking for something more compact, this might not be for you. My dad likes the size and the power of it so it was great for him.
