Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid KHB100ER Hand Blender, Empire RedCustomer Review: Big and burly Summary: 4 Stars
This blender has been voted the finest in a test conducted by cook's illustrated magazine, and I can see the reasons. This is a big blender with lot of power and superb construction. It is the only blender, I think, that offers multiple speed options. I haven't really stress tested it but so far it has lived up to my expectations.
If I have to nitpick, then the only thing that bothers me is its big size. Another thing to consider is that the accessories such as chopper and whip cost 30 a pop, which you get for free with other worthy blenders, like the ones from Cuisinart and Braun
Customer Review: Grainy Smoothies and weak motor Summary: 2 Stars
We had this mixer for about 24months. Not only was the product not able to really blend soups and smoothies - they were always still grainy, something I didn't expect knowing other handheld blenders - but also did it break twice. The first time within 2 weeks into the warranty. The engine did burn out. We did not use it at the high power setting, we were taking breaks and it started to smoke and broke. The warranty allowed a quick exchange for a new product - 23.5months later the second unit broke with the same symptoms.
We won't be looking into buying this product again.
Customer Review: excellent hand blender, just one concern Summary: 4 Stars
I have owned about 5 different hand blenders. My first experience was with a cheap yard sale purchase. I loved the concept, and purchased more as I killed them off. I finally wised up and started reading reviews. This is my second Kitchen Aid. On the first one, I stripped the plastic gears on the motor part. The motor still works, but the wand will no longer turn the blade. Be careful to make sure your wand is securely engaged before using. This is one powerful hand mixer. I have blown out the side of 2 plastic cups when I used large ice-cubes!
Customer Review: Buyer Beware Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this item yesterday, Kitchen Aid Model KHB100ER (red), at a local Fred Meyer store here in Seattle. It worked great for just about two seconds, while I was mixing soup, before it totally died. One would think that such appliances should be checked out at the factory, prior to shipment. I'm just glad that I didn't purchase this as a gift, because I would have been very embarrassed. The only reason why I'm giving it two stars is because the replacement provided at the store seems to work okay, but who knows how long it will last.
Customer Review: If you can buy the full package Summary: 5 Stars
If I could have afforded it I wish I could have purcahsed the full package but this item is exceptional. I purcased it after seeing it reviewed on a PBS cooking show where it received the best rating. There is a knob at the top to set the speed which is not apperent in the photos. I have used it to make sunflower seed butter, strawberries for ice cream and peach jam. I cannot speak to longevity but so far this is a great item. I just wish I had gotten the wisk/chopper package.
